Kat's pov
I hid Ace's motorbike in the tall weeds as best as I can covering my hair back and bare skin so my scent wouldn't be too noticeable for the wolves in the area. The crushed wolfsbane wouldn't be enough to deal with a pack in case I get caught.
"Ready to face your demons, Eli?" I asked, seeing him watch the distance hear the distant drums. It reeks of wolves, and it's a scent I can't forget.
"No, but I have to prove myself," He mumbles to himself. I pat his back awkwardly, unsure if this is what humans do to comfort people. Kat sighs, hoping her coming here wouldn't get her into any trouble, plus Christmas and New Years' is coming soon, and she wants her first Christmas to be the first where there's no bloodshed.
Italian mobsters settle disputes among themselves, and only family members, workers, or dirty do-gooders only get a bonus. Stefano always gave me a stocking filled with gifts. His wife didn't appreciate it, but diamond earrings would ever shut her up. Seeing prominent families in Christmas movies made me daydream about the idea of having a big family happy and no mess to deal with, but it has to start with wiping my hands clean of this.
I think back on those times I had to fend for myself when working the streets and how no one had my back, not like my Don Stefano he always said having someone cover your back is someone trustworthy. I've stabbed many people in the back over the years I've been struggling to stay alive. I don't know if it's me feeling ashamed for prying into Eli's mind that is making me do this. Or the promise I made to Stefano back in New York that I will never get myself involved in drugs again.
