Syracuse, NY

Walking up to that house had a different reason this time.

It wasn’t to get help from Christian and my family.

It was to see my father off for the last time.

It was to be there for my mother during this rough time.

I pushed my hood down as I saw her walking down the hallway with a half smile on her face. I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her neck.

“Jordana, you are home.” Mom cried into my neck.

“I can't believe he is just gone.”

Mom pushed me back, “He found out the last time that you were home that he didn’t have much time.”

“He knew but never told me?”

“He thought you would have come back last night.”

“But that photo was a fake.”

“What photo, he went back to Vancouver to see you and tell you the truth.”

“He never told you that he had a photo of Oliver and Cassie?”

Mom stepped back from me, “Child, don’t you be lying to me.”

“Mom that was why he came out to see me and he had Christian with him.”

“I know nothing about what you are talking about.”

I glanced back at her as she crossed her arms, “Mom, what is going on?”

Mom shook her head, “I don’t know anymore Jordana.”

I looked over at the front door as it was opened.

Mom smiled back at the girl, “Thank you for coming.”

I stepped to the side as the girl walked over to my mother and hugged her.

The girl glanced back at me, “You must be Jordana.”

                I looked at her.

“Jordana this is your father’s half sister, she is in town for the funeral.”

“I'm sorry but I don’t know you.” I said back to her.

“I understand that, your father and I was a couple years apart and with me being with my mother in the south I never really was around your father.”

I nodded my head back at her, “What was your name?”

“I'm Aria.” She smiled back at me.

I nodded my head as I watched my mother and her walk down the hallway toward the back of the house.

I pulled out my phone and called Aurelia.
