I don’t know what happened but I just woke up one day and I was suddenly obsessed with The 1975. Matty Baby. *sighs*

CHAPTER 22: A DEAD END

I couldn’t stop laughing.

Of all the things a perfectly normal and sane person could do when faced in an impending confrontation, I chose to do the worst option. No one in their right minds would do what I did. But then again, there was always something wrong with the way I think.

I was running right now.

After Chase showed up behind me asking questions that I didn’t have an answer to, my mind shut down and I panicked. So I ran like a mad man trying to save his life. My smart and reliable friends did the same thing and followed my tracks, making our actions even more suspicious. We heard Chase’s running steps behind us and we laughed even harder. Since it was known to everyone that I was the most athletic person in the area, Brent gripped my wrist and dragged me with him as he turned around the corner. Rielle, being the sensible person that she was, hauled us both in the first room she found which turned out to be the ladies room.

“Hey I can’t be here!” Brenton yelled and I clapped my hand over his mouth, pulling him inside a cubicle. The three of us held our breaths until the sound of Chase’s footsteps couldn’t be heard. Then all of a sudden, we burst out laughing, doubling over, and clutching our stomachs. It was a terrible idea to run away from your boyfriend and hide from him with your friends but I had to admit it, it was totally hilarious.

“What was that about?” Rielle said, as soon as she calmed down, the ghost of a smile still lingering on her face.

“I have no idea,” I replied.

“Well, this nonsense gave you enough time to think of a reasonable explanation to your boyfriend,” Brenton said. “And while you’re at it, think of a good excuse to clean my name because whatever happens to your relationship, I’m not getting involved!”

“You are involved, genius!” I said, laughing. “Chase has a pretty mean punch, you know.”

“Sacred!” he pleaded and I grinned. Rielle, on the other hand looked at him with pity eyes.

After we lost Chase, I walked discreetly to my locker, making sure I wasn’t being followed. He might be there waiting for me but I was taking my chances. I could always run if things got awkward again. Or I could kiss him instead. Would that make him forget what happened? Even I was disturbed by my own train of thoughts. Kiss him? Seriously.

When I reached the hallway where my locker was located, I saw someone leaning against the metal compartment. Before I could turn around, he saw me and approached the spot where I stood. After all the running earlier, I couldn’t find enough energy to try anything to avoid him. I might as well stay rooted here. We both knew he could still catch me no matter how fast I run. The aggravation in my mind grew bigger the moment he grabbed my hand. I grimaced and raised a brow.

“What exactly do you want?” I asked as a greeting.

“Funny thing that you forgot you owe me a few hours of your time,” Dylan said, tightening his grip.

“If I remember it correctly, no one won the game so technically I don’t owe you anything,” I replied in a cold tone.

“Well, let me refresh your rusty memory then,” he said. “You forfeit that game. So my team won.”
