I groaned. "Well, come on then." I beckoned.

My old friend skidded over to me and we walked towards the opening.

"So, about what I was telling you earlier-" I shushed him.

"That conversation is dead. Don't try to Frankenstein it."

He chuckled a bit. "Oh, but I already have. Anyways, as I was saying; the proposal is something that I think is something truly spectacular."

"I think that we should work together."

I thought about his offer for a hot second.

"Naw."

The country beside me stopped in his tracks, flabbergasted at the way I phrased my response. However, he soon regained his footing.

"Why no? This is a great opportunity for our nations to prosper and become allies." He fought back.

"China." I began. "You know the rules of this world and our purpose better than any other country here. Yet, you are the most block-headed person that I have ever met."

My adversaries face sharpened, as his eyes narrowed. "I am no such thing." He argued with a darkening venom in his voice.

I glanced over at him, and rolled my eyes. "You tell yourself that. But, you should realize that there is nothing to gain from a friendship with me." I pointed out sourly.

"Oh, but there is. Trade could flow better, two powerful countries could have an influence over many others, and we could reduce bitterness between our nations." He stated proudly.

"Nice try. However, trade is already smooth thanks to my demands for your goods. Influence is not something I am interested in gaining, because it makes you look corrupt. And, while I don't disagree with you on your last point, our people have grown to far apart to even consider a major change without an uproar."

By this point, the red country looked deflated and slouched.

However, I had one last point to make. "You should also know that even if you change my mind about you, that it won't change the public's mind. You would need to do something of vast importance to all of my people."

"And...well, that's impossible with how divided they are." With saying that, I turned away from the defeated country and continued on my way.

The hallway fell into a fragile silence of just my old friend and I's foot steps.

The hallways mirrored my situation perfectly. It was drab with some flickering lights lining it. There were also countless reflective surfaces placed on some pedestals and hanging on the walls.

Some where glasses with no beverage in them, others were glass figures with a metallic tint to them. The last were mirrors on the walls that made me look back at the country following me.

I felt kinda bad about refusing his offer, but I couldn't let his toxicity blind me again.

I just couldn't trust him.

"You card shark!" South Korea accused after Japan gave him an add two card.

Japan smirked cheekily. "Thank you, I take pride in my title."

The group around the table laughed at Japan's comeback, while South Korea huffed and drew two cards.
