I knew her

The numbing darkness embraces her cooly
As she lays tucked in her bedroom's depth.
Her legs cocooned by her arms,
She draws shaky breath after breath.

Nights seem too long,
The days too bright.
One spent in tear filled wallows,
The other to smile on sight.

As tears kiss her face,
A smile hurts her lonesome.
Why does the dusk bring her familiarity
While the dawn, a stranger unwelcome?

She doesn't wish to be lonely
But somedays her sorrows chain her.
She doesn't wish to seem withdrawn
But somedays her thoughts choke her.

Those who passed her didn't care enough
Those who befriended her didn't notice
Those who loved her couldn't comprehend
Now all anyone can say is "I once knew her."
