the Man i loved

When I was eight,
They moved in next door,
A boy of my age,
Someone I wanted to know more.

When I was thirteen,
I used to wonder
Why he never smiled,
Always with clouds and thunder.

When I was sixteen,
I met with an accident
His gentle arms picked me up
Showing no signs of abandonment.

When I was eighteen,
I was told to stay away,
He was trouble,
And i, was not to fray.

When I was twenty,
He told me never to leave,
That he liked me,
And I, him.

When I was twenty one,
My parents reprimanded me,
Told me to open my eyes,
Told me our love was forbidden.

When I was twenty two,
My parents stopped talking to me
Told me they were disappointed
Told me they didn't like him.

When I was twenty three,
He told me he loved me,
He told me he cared
And that he would never leave me behind

When I was twenty five,
He proposed under the sunset
It was the happiest day of my life.
My parents still didn't approve.

When I was thirty,
We were hit by a drunk driver
He saved me,
Shielding my body with his own.

When I was thirty,
I lost the love of my life
He had saved me.
But I was shattered.

When I was thirty,
My parents understood,
But he was gone,
And so was my heart.

When I was thirty,
I realised that people take appearences,
Leave out the heart.
Judge the cover.

When I was thirty,
I realised that in order for someone to believe,
You had to do something unimaginable
And be willing to die for your cause.

No one would trust you,
They would judge and belittle,
Until they realise that you were a pure soul,
After your death.
