10| A stupid Decision

Sebastian's POV

The same night

I sat at my desk filling out and signing documents on behalf of my father. They were sent to me by the council; they were requests from various vampire cities around the world. A lot of humans don't realise that we live among them, but some of our kingdoms like ours are away from human civilizations, where there would never suspect people much less vampires to be.

I sigh and stand up from my desk for the first time since this morning, writing and helping my father with the technical part of being a king. This has been neglected for a long time now.

I stretched, hearing the cracks of my bones.

I walked over to the bar I had constructed in my office. Took my glass and filled it with whiskey. I took a large gulp; I was about to take another when I heard knocking on my door.

"Who's it?" I asked.

"It's your mother, I'm coming in."

I rushed over to the papers and put them in my drawer and sat at my desk with my whiskey in hand, sipping.

"I saw that!"

"Saw what mom?"

"Ohhh... don't play smart with me...I know you were working late. Again."

"Did you come to my office to nag at me again?" I asked,  irritated.

"No! I just think you should stop working so hard. You've hardly taken Chelsea out since you started dating six years ago. Soon your father wants to retire and you'll be taking over as King. You must be married to take over." he said, walking towards me, holding my face between her hands. The tone of her voice suggested that he was pleading with me.

"Okay, I'll call her up as soon as I get some business taken care of."

"What business son?" my mother asked, agitation thick in her voice.

"Nothing that concerns you,"

"Hmmm... does it have to do with those human girls you have locked up in the room?"

It shocked me she found them, but my face remained plain as though it lacked the ability to show emotion.

"Yes."

"What do you plan on doing with them... matter of fact, how did you end up bringing them here?"

"Well, Lazarus and I were out at a Halloween festival after we visited one of our clans in America and went to the festival. We were both hungry but Lazarus couldn't contain his hunger so he disappeared from me and when I found him he was feeding off of a woman. Soon I heard screams, and I acted on impulse and brought them back."

"What a stupid decision," she snapped.

"What if someone followed you," she continued.

"It already happened... I planned to erase their memory of us and send them home."

She laughs

"You think it's that easy? How are you going to explain this to your father?" she asked now, walking up and down the room.

"Mom, calm down. I had time to plan things through."

She pauses before asking a question that would truly anger her when she heard the answer.

"How long have they been here?"

Before answering her, I observed her face. She was crying again because of something my father did. I wish she'd stop changing topics every time I asked.

How could I miss her crying?

"A week."

"A week? A week?... oh my god and you expect them to go back to life like everything was normal."

She paces even more with her hands, rubbing her chin to think. This continues for a few more minutes before she looks up at me.

"Okay, we need to let them call their family."

"That's a damn good idea... but it would disappoint your father in you."

She had to bring him into this. It annoyed me he cheated on her multiple times, yet she loved him. She cried every time they had a heated argument, yet she loved him. Is love this blind, stupid even?

I sighed

"Not the time mom," I snapped, turning my back on her. She got the message and exited my office.

Note to self-deal with the humans.
