Eden PoV

I shut my eyes as a wave of exhaustion hit me both physically and emotionally so I sluggishly rolled my back with a struggle to pull my big belly with me over to feel a presence towering over me.

"Fuck" I cursed snapping my eyes up wide with panic only to see a shocked looking Jace towering over me quickly placing his finger over his mouth in a gesture to be quiet.

I narrowed my eyes at him and realised his hair was disheveled like it got when he'd been stressed out and running his hands through it too much. He looked worried and my heart raced in fear at the sudden turn in the situation.

'There's someone outside watching us. I saw them when I went to get some air. Stay quiet okay?'
Jace mindlinked me with a firm authority in his tone laced with an underlying sound of concern.

We were out in the middle of nowhere. Nobody knew where we were and yet someone was out her spying on us. That didn't make sense but I couldn't help but place my hands on my stomach protectively.

'Jace how would anyone know we were here?'

'That's what I wanna know. But I recognised him.
I just can't figure out where from. I need you to stay safe baby. Go up until the bedroom and lock the door. Don't open it unless it's me? Please Eden' Jace's last words held a plea that for once I couldn't ignore. I clambered to my feet with his help and held him tightly listening to the rapid pace of his heartbeat and inhaling his calming cinnamon scent.

'Jace please be careful. I love you so much I can't lose you' my damned hormones made me want to cry and I clutched onto him as if it might be the last time I saw him.

Over dramatic as it was I was scared shitless!

'You can't get rid of me that easily. I love you too baby. Now go. As quiet as you can okay?!' Jace cupped my cheeks in his strong hands and laid a soft lingering kiss on my lips before he ushered me toward the stairs. He watched me until I was at the top then I gazed back at him and gasped when I heard the sound of glass smashing in the kitchen.

'GO!!'  Jace yelled one my head before he rushed off and I felt a fast flow of fury rush through him as he went head first into danger.

I did what he said and locked myself in the bedroom and feeling a shiver of coldness and fear I found some sweatpants and pulled them over my legs.

I began to pace the room, probably wearing a hole in the carpet and biting on my fingernails in an anxious  manner until they felt raw and too sore to carry on.

I tried to reach out to Jace again through our mindlink but he had closed it off, I couldn't feel his emotions anymore either. That wall felt like hell in itself because I had no clue what was going on or if he was okay.

I threw myself on the bed and curled up cuddling Jace's pillow and finding some sort of solace in his scent. I don't know how long I'd laid there but I was suddenly startled by a loud thumping on the door.

"Eden it's me open the door" Jace spoke loudly sounding slightly alarmed and I realised I'd fallen asleep and might not have heard him the first time.

I jumped up as fast as a fat woman could do and swung the door open. A flood of relief hit me as I saw Jace and I almost fell onto his embrace,  needing to feel him to make sure he wasn't hurt and that I wasn't dreaming.

"You're okay?! " I cried softly into his chest digging my hands into his shirt and holding on for dear life. It was more of a statement of reassurance to myself than a question but I was just so glad he was back in one piece. My brain has been imagining all kinds of awful things until I'd gone to sleep with fearful thoughts in my mind.

"shit, I didn't mean to scare you.. I'm sorry... I just panicked when you didn't open the door the first few times I knocked" he apologised looking crestfallen that he'd freaked the crap out of me.

"I'm just glad you're back and okay. But I must have fallen asleep I'm so sorry" " guilt swarmed me as I realised Jace had been dealing with someone spying on us and I'd fallen asleep.

What kind of mate did that?!

"You were exhausted, don't worry about it. Although we do have a problem. The guy outside. It's that guy from Blake's house... Marco" Jace sighed running his fingers through my hair affectionately.

"Marco?" I stepped back to get a better look at Jace in shock that of all the people it was him.

"I've tied him up in the basement but he refused to speak to me and says he will only talk to you. I've called my brother and he has some warriors on their way to get him. It seems like you have a bit of a stalker on your hands" He explained taking my hand and leading me down the stairs with a chuckle that didn't sound like he thought the issue was at all funny.

The basement was brightly lit by a set of long strip lights and Marco was in the centre of the room restrained in a wooden chair.

"Eden. You came to see me?" Marco smiled widely like he was a welcome guest here or something. His pupils were dilated unto tiny dots and I could smell blood on him that wasn't his own.

"Marco what the hell are you doing here?" Jace demanded roughly looking so angry it wouldn't take much to push him over the edge.

"I came to look after Eden of course"

"Look after my mate? I think I can look after her by myself thanks" my mate laughed at that thought and I couldn't help but smirk too.

"Can't she talk for herself?" Marco scoffed testing Jace's patience and trying to undermine him.

"Of course I can talk. But I'm in shock as to how you knew where we were and why you are here?!" I snapped losing my patience with him. I was too tired and pissed off for this crap.

Pregnant and tired Eden wasn't a great combination.

"It's simple really, I followed you"

"Are you out of your mind? You followed us out until the middle of nowhere to sit on us? That's sick. You need help Marco" my anger was combined with disbelief at the nonchalant manner in which Marco seemed to be behaving. It was insane.

"I care about you Eden. You are very special and that needed to know you were safe" this lunatic carried on talking with such a caring voice that it almost seemed like he believed it. He didn't see how crazy this was. I was just surprised Jace hadn't best the shit out of him to be truthful.

Not that I wanted him hurt but Jace seemed to be trying to rein in his primal need to protect me and eliminate the threat which I appreciated.

There had been so much violence already; mostly at my hand and I was trying to be a better person. Jace was clearly trying to do the same and support me.

Goddess I didn't deserve him.
