Chapter 2

Little things matter...always

"Nicki, Nicole hey wait up" a loud voice shouts as I'm about to walk in the school gates. Looking for the owner of the voice I found  a very tall, skinny and dark-skinned girl who had eyes like cats and lips as plump as they can get. Ladies and gentlemen meet Rebecca,A girl who likes weaves but has no hair of her own and no,it's not because she is incapable of having her own hair but simply because she likes other people's hair like the Brazilian weave she had on now. Which I must say suited her.

"Becca...girllllll" I say looking up to her.
"What do they feed ya at home?? Are you being watered or what? You never stop growing" I say, the girl was almost a foot taller than me now and the last time I saw her which was a week back she wasn't this tall.
"Argh...you know they ain't feeding me or anything like that, Blame it on my African roots" she says proudly.
"Hey..." I hit her shoulder, "I'm also African and I'm not as tall as you are". I wasn't the tallest girl in the room seeing that Becca here took that but I also wasn't the shortest in the room,owing that to this other girl in class. With all that being said, I still was below average. As I said before I can't help that I'm more down to earth than most people.

As Becca and I continued to walk through the gates of hell, we spoke about what we hoped the rest of the year would be like. We were a little late seeing how the assembly has already started and there's nothing i hate more than assembly on the first day the year. It was nothing more than announcements, announcements and  announcements, did I mention announcements? I did?? Oh! Sorry.

After the principal wasted one third of my life, we were finally free to go to our register class where we will meet our fellow classmates for the rest of the year.
"Do you think Brian will be in our class this year?" Faith,another close friend of mine asks. Faith was obsessed with Brian, so obsessed that she one day fasted and prayed to God to make Brian just look her way. And people say I'm dramatic, huh!! The insult.

"Why do you say 'our class' as if we will be in the same class?" Asked Pinky. Now Pinky was what you would call a smart-ass that one really liked but she was pretty funny when you get to know her.
"Coz we will be,duh!!" Becca says with an eye roll.
"Of course we would... the class system which is random might I add, knows that we are friends and decided to pair us out of the kindness of its heart, right?"I say mockingly at Becca. There was no guarantee that we will be in the same class seeing as to how the class thing was done at random.
"Did she just use that tone with me?? Someone hold my hair while I sort this sarcastic girl out" Becca says while faking to remove the weave she had on. My friends are a little bit dramatic and crazy but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Faith and I ended up being in the same class, and guess who?? If you guessed Brian you were right. Brian was in the same as us and Faith couldn't be more happier. She kept gushing about how God answered her prayers and all.
Now Becca, Pinky and the rest of the squad were scattered in the remains 5 classes. As sad as this is we will never see each other that much except in the morning, during lunch and after school.

Ringgggg
The bell rang, notifying us of lunch. I couldn't wait to walk out and it's not because I was hungry. It was because I'm meeting a certain someone and I couldn't wait. As soon as the teacher dismissed us I was out.
"Nicki, wait" Faith says as she packs her things.
"Couldn't you pack earlier like everyone else had done??" I ask, I was on a mission and she is an obstacle in the mention.
"Chillax girl, it's not like you have a date or something" she shoots back. I don't say anything as I couldn't help but think about how untrue that was.
"Oh my gawd, are you meeting someone?? Is he cute, do I know him? Why didn't you tell me ? Did you guys meet during the holidays? Oh my-"
"Ok ok..slow down tiger. Yes I'm meeting someone, his kinda cute, I don't think you do know him, I didn't tell anyone coz there's nothing going on and I met him yesterday so technically it was still the holidays." I say answering her questions while walking out of the class.
"You guys should eat without me" I shout as I leave a wide eyed Faith.
"Nicole...wait" a shocked Faith shouts will I giggle a little bit  as I walk away not waiting for anyone. Now that I told Faith I knew the squad will know by the time I get back. Faith couldn't really keep things to herself, she says they itch her or something.

As I walk to the bathroom just to check how I looked, I couldn't help but wonder what I will say to Jake, I don't know why but I was a little nervous. I had a boyfriend before, back in primary if that counts and ever since we broke up, I never dated anyone  else and that was over a year ago. My reflection looked good and I was ready to go, except the fact that I know realised that we never mentioned where we will meet. Dang!! Our school was a little big to look for someone and I didn't wanna go around looking like a fool.
How stupid are we? We forget the most important thing. This actually reminded me of the time where my family and I went to Gold Reef City,we decided to split up and meet after 2 hours and guess what? We never really said where and to top it off my mom had our phones for safekeeping. So you can imagine me looking for my family and not finding them anywhere even after half an hour of searching. I had just  given up when I saw my younger brother in one of the rides and guess who?? Yep, my whole family was there. No one not even one person was concerned as to where was I. Turns out they meet where we split up and me being the dumb one never thought of that.
So just like I was lost in back then I was lost right now, I just didn't know where to look for him and it didn't help that I didn't know even a friend of his as that would have increased my chances of finding him via his friends.

I was so disappointed that everything and everyone around me  blurred out. I don't know why but I was really sad that I couldn't find him. When I walked to a spot where the squad and I usually sit I spotted a few curious faces. I knew that Faith would waste no time in telling them but right now I wasn't even in the mood to answer any of their questions. But being the person that I am, I put on a smile and walked towards my friends.

It's easier to be happy than sad, I say in my head.

When I sat down..everyone was still looking at me, waiting for me to spill the tea and all.
"Who happens to have avocado sandwich?" I ask nonchalantly.
"Avocado sandwich?? Avoca-the nerve of this girl!" Becca screams
"You"

"Boyfriend"

"And you didn't fricken tell me?or any of us! Why?" Becca asks, you can see that she was fuming.
"That's because I don't and it really doesn't matter"I say, munching on Bridget's chips, another friend of mine. Becca stares at me like I'm from another planet while Bridget a slaps my hand out of her lunchbox.
"I definitely need a new friend" Becca whines as if she still doesn't believe that I just said that to her.
"Can you just tell us what happened?" Pinky asks.
"What's the magic word?" I  tease
"Does it happen to start with a P?" Pinky asks
"Yeppp, you know me!"
"Piss off??" Pinky asks while she gave me fake innocent eyes.
"Yeah...that's it, it wasn't that hard was it??"I say sarcastically.
"Arggg, can you just talk??" A Frustrated Faith says, hitting me with a chip on my beautiful face 😩. The nerve of this child.
"Fine,fine, fine jeez slow down tiger" I say to all my friends, wiping my face. And just like that, I told them everything because that's what friends do, they tell each other everything or so I thought.

The rest of the school day was great despite the grey cloud that was hovering over me.
It was after school and I was waiting for Faith to pack her things when a shadow loomed over me.
"You ditched me, Princess " a voice says behind me
