Summary:
Durarara!! is an anime hard to summarise by virtue of how much it has going on. For those new to the franchise, I’ll try to give a quick blurb: the Ikebukuro district of modern Tokyo may seem like another Japanese urban centre, but beneath the surface it is a melting pot of the weird and wonderful. Headless horsemen do delivery. The Incredible Hulk tends bars. Puppet masters manipulate rival factions into states of virtual civil war. So, it’s basically like every other metropolis. Ryuugamine Mikado (Toyonaga Toshiyuki) is just a country boy; how’s he going to survive in the big city? It’s a good thing that, in Ikebukuro, even plain-looking high school students are not all that they seem.

Own opinion:
Finally the number 1 in my list this year! The original run of Durarara!! aired way back in 2010, and now a full five years later it finally has a sequel, albeit now animated by the newcomer studio shuka. An adaptation of a light novel by Narita Ryougo, who also wrote Baccano! (which sadly has no sequel). I only mentioned Mikado in the summary because Durarara!! has a humongous cast that defies the scope of two paragraphs of preview. With Durarara!!x2 Shou being only the first of three planned sequel seasons (x2 Ten airs in July, and x2 Ketsu next year), they’re bound to have big things planned. If you have never watched the original Durarara!!, go check it out; it’s great fun. If you enjoyed the previous installment, then Durarara!!x2 Shou is an easy pick for Winter 2015.
