Summary:

Have you ever wondered what life would be like working in a bustling bookstore located smack dab in (most likely) Akiba? Well wonder no longer! Denki-gai no Honya-san is the story of a high school kid named Umi (Ohsaka Ryota) and his struggle to survive at his grueling workplace. Between trying to deal with his rowdy coworkers – with nicknames like Sensei, The Director, and Zombie Girl – to periodic inspections from government workers whose sole job is to check that all the ero-hons or PORNOS are labeled and sealed properly, Umi definitely has his work cut out for him.

Rank: 5 over 5 stars

Own opinion:

It’s been a while since I’ve gotten this excited for a show after researching it. I’m completely in love with everything the manga has shown me, and I’m really hoping its unique charm doesn’t get lost in translation. From the art style to the Seitokai-levels of dirty humor, I had to restrain myself from reading too much. If I had to pick my favorite character, it would be a close battle between Umi and Hio (Takamori Natsumi). With the former being the straightman for just about everyone and the latter ending up in hilariously awkward situations (like rampantly running around yelling that she loves porn), there’s more than enough reason to like them both! All in all, if you’re looking for a quirky slice-of-life that’ll get you laughing, this show should definitely be on your list.
