Chapter 10

“Miss Mirabell?”

“Oh, yes, Mr. Klinger?”  I was brought back to reality by my science teacher.

“What’s the answer?”  He demanded with an upset tone.

“Oh, um, to what?”

“What’s the definition of viscosity?”  Darn teacher is so impatient!

I replied without hesitating.  I know this.  “The tendency to resist flow.”

“No, I’m sorry-”  He paused.  “Oh, yeah, that’s the answer.  My apologies.”

“Mmhmm.”  I rolled my eyes.

I hate being back at school.  Why couldn’t spring break last longer?

I looked around at the classroom.  Like half the students were gone.  I guess I’m one of the only ones who actually woke up at a decent hour today.

Buzz, buzz buzz…

Oh crap!  My phone!

“Miss Mirabell?  Please give me your phone.”  Mr. Klinger asked.  “Now.”

I can’t give the stupid teacher my phone!  “No, um, Mr. Klinger, it won’t happen again.  I promise.”

He paused and thought about it.  “Fine.  Never again.”  Damn Klinger gave me the evil eye and returned to reading his emails or whatever teachers do.

I held my phone under my desk and looked at the screen.

One missed call.  Taylor Lautner.

Doesn’t he know I’m at school!?  Just because he doesn’t go to school doesn’t mean he can’t know when school is!  I mean, why else am I gone for the whole damn day?

My phone lit up again.

Incoming call.  Taylor Lautner.

What!?

I have a plan!

I pressed call and put the phone under my hair and laid my head on my desk.  But it just looks like my ear is against the desk, with my hair everywhere.  You can’t see my phone!

Brilliant!

“What, Taylor?”  I said, as if I was talking to my neighbor.  Everyone was talking anyway.

“Hey, what’s up?”

“You dipshit I’m at school!  School!”

“Oh, when does it end?”

“Like three.”

“Oh my god!  That’s so gay!”

“Yeah.  I know.”

“You’re allowed to use your phone?”

“No.”

“Then how..?”

“I have my ways, Taylor.”

“Apparently.”  He laughed.

“Yeah so I have to go, before I get caught.”

“Get caught doing what, Miss Mirabell?”  Mr. Klinger said, standing right in front of my desk.

“Um… being innocent?”

“Nice try.  Give me the phone.”

I cussed under my breath and picked my head up, and pushed the end call button.  But before I did, I heard, “I’m gonna come get you!”

“Give my your phone today, Mirabell.”

Damn, can’t he just wait a second!

“Here, here, calm your sweater vest.  God.”

I turned it off and handed my phone to him.

“Thank you.”

“You’re just so welcome.”

If you’re wondering why I’m such a smartass to teachers, its not all teachers.  It’s Mr. Klinger.  I have a perfect grade in his class, so he doesn’t get me in trouble.  He lets me be mean to him.  He’s mean back, but he loves me.

Not like that.  Damn.

Ding!  Ding!  Ding!

Finally!  This hell of a class is over!

Lunch!
