Alana POV

That was eight years ago. A lot has changed since I went to live with the Layne's. Parker and I lived there for about three months before we found a more permanent placement. Parker and I went to three more foster homes together after that, then he got moved out and I didn't. I've been in four homes without him and today I move to home number five. Miss Nicole comes and knocks on the door. I grab my bag and throw it over one shoulder and a backpack on the other shoulder. I walk out the door where I am greeted by Miss Nicole's friendly smile, "are you ready to go? Your gonna love this next place." I let out a sigh. "I don't want to love this next place."
"Alana I know it's hard to move homes."
"It's fine, there all just temporary right. I just need to remember not to get attached."
"Alana."
"It's fine, I need to remember fourteen-year-old girls are not exactly in high demand to be adopted." She gives me a sad smile as she turns on the car. "What music do you want to listen to?" She hands me her phone that's already plugged into the car stereo. I turn on amnesia by 5SOS

"Alana I know your upset about having to move again, but this could be a good thing."
"Nicole that's what you've said the past three times." she lets out a sad sigh. I close my eyes and try to fall asleep. A little while later a feel Nicole shaking my shoulder. "Alana, sweetheart were here." I slowly open my eyes and see the most beautiful house. I smile a little bit. "Come on let's get your bags and introduce you to your new foster parents." I grab my bags from the backseat and walk-up towards the front door. With every step, I get more butterflies in my stomach, and I can feel the weight of my bag on my shoulder. Nicole hits the doorbell and I start to get very anxious. I see a woman come to the door, she has blonde hair the falls into waves that go down her back, she opens the door and invites us in. "Hello, my name is Jenifer and you must be Alana." I smile and hold out my hand "It's nice to meet you, Jenifer." She shakes my hand and gives me a smile, just then a man with brown hair walks around the corner "Honey who was at the door?" He smiles at me "Hi, I'm Clark it's nice to meet you."
"Hi Clark, I'm Alana." Nicole hands Jenifer a small packet of information about me before leaving again. Jenifer speaks up "Alana, let me show you to your room, then I will get dinner started. Do you have a favorite meal we could make?"
"No, I don't have a favorite meal. Whatever you guys would like is fine with me." Jenifer takes me upstairs. "This first door is Carson he's our oldest, next to him is Chase, and this room on the end is yours." She pushes open the door. It looks like a standard room, for the most part, there's a bunk bed across the back wall and a desk in the corner. "I know there are not many decorations, but we can change that this weekend," Jen says with a smile before leaving me alone. I walk over to the closet and start hanging up some of my clothes. I pull out the one picture I have of Parker and me when we were little. One of my foster families took it for us when I was about ten and Parker was twelve. It was from the last foster home we were in together. I finish putting my last few things away and put my bag in the bottom of my closet. I walk downstairs and into the kitchen just in time to hear "MOM! We're home!"
"BOYS! Come in here for a minute!" I see two boys walk around the corner "Boys, this is Alana. Boys introduce yourselves." The first boy steps forward and clears his throat, he's tall thin with short spikey strawberry blonde hair with blue eyes. He looks like he could be a sprinter in track. "My name is Carson, I'm sixteen and just started my sophomore year in Highschool."
"Yea, because he needs to learn to actually apply himself."
"Or the fact I was out for almost a year, whatever floats your boat." The younger boy rolls his eyes. They have a similar body frame, that's about where their similarities stop. The shorter boy has brown hair and green eyes and his skin is a little more tan than his brothers. "My name is Chase I'm fifteen and a sophomore this year." I wave at both of them "I'm Alana, I'm fourteen and a freshman this year."
"Boys, Alana is transferring to your high school so you need to drive her in the mornings."
"Mom, we have cross country after school."
"Yes, and she can decide if she wants to stay and watch or I can pick her up when I get off work." She smiles at the boys, "Go do your homework, dinner will be ready in about two hours." They both run upstairs to start working on homework. Today was Friday so there wasn't that much homework to get done, I don't start classes till Monday so I just walked around and explored the house a little bit, I walked through the door to the basement and went downstairs. I see Carson sitting on the couch in the basement working on homework. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to disturb you. I'll go away." I turn around to go back upstairs. "Alana wait. Come talk to me, I want to get to know you." I cautiously walk over to the couch. "So, tell me a little bit about Alana."
"Well, there's not much to tell. I'm a fourteen-year-old freshman that's been in foster care since I was six years old."
"What do you do for fun?"
"I... I... I don't know. Most of the foster homes I went to the foster parents just took me around everywhere they could so they would look like better people, they did it for the money or the social status, I didn't really get to do anything 'fun'. What about you what does Carson do for fun?"
"Well, I like to read." He picks up the book that was laying on his lap and set it on the coffee table in front of him. "I play guitar, I enjoy playing sports or running outside. I do enjoy playing a few video games, but Chase is the bigger gamer out of the two of us." At that moment we hear Chase ride down the stair rail "That's right I am. I'm a better gamer, and I'm faster." Chase says as he struts over toward us. "Realy, you want to put that to the test," Carson says and Chase grins "Your on Little Brother," Carson says before getting off the couch and takes off after him. They chase each other around the basement until Carson catches him and tackles him on the couch. "Who's the faster brother," Carson says wrestling Chase on the couch and then pulling him onto the floor. Chase starts to laugh, "One-day big brother, I will be faster."
"Keep dreaming dude." He says with a smile and a laugh. "anyway, back to our conversation." I must have looked shocked and a little confused. "Don't worry, we do that all the time," he says laughing a little bit. "anything you want to know about our crazy family?"
"I know this is a weird question, but do you guys take in fosters often?"
"Not super often, We get one every once in a while, but I think most of them are emergency placements. Usually, they only stay here a week to a few months."
"Oh." I say a little disappointed "It's only temporary, don't get attached." I whisper to myself under my breath. "Kids dinner!" We all run upstairs and eat a very delicious meal. We all sit around and talk of a little bit after the meal, "Don't forget we're watching a movie at 9 pm tonight after your dad gets off work. Be in the upstairs living room by 9." We all get up as Jenifer does the dishes. I go and sit in my room for a little bit and take a deep breath, I hear a knock on the door. "Come in." I see the door open and Carson walks in. "Let's talk."
