"there were glittering gowns and flashing lights surrounding her,

she could hear the compliments, in screams, that left a ringing in her ears, but none made their way to her soul,

she could feel her eyes burning up, tears threatening to spill but she had to pull it together for the millions of eyes watching her every move,

she flashed a smile, a smile so beautiful yet so forced that her cheeks hurt.

after the ringing and pain had subsided and she stood in front of her mirror,

begging the tears to stop as the mascara ran down, ruining her made-up face,

she prayed for a day when she could stop pretending to be someone else"
