I smiled at her and asked her to come sit by me. She immediately did as I requested, but instead of taking the seat next to mine, she dropped to her knees in front of me and leaned against my legs.
"My name is Park Jimin."
She pursed her cute rosy colored lips, sighing, "I'm number 134."
I grinned at her, "You don't like being called 134?"
"It's not a name. It's a file number. It makes me feel like a piece of inventory, which I guess I am if I think about it," she grumbled. I understood her feelings about it. No one should feel like that.
"May I pet you?" I asked.
She picked up my hand and cradled it in both of hers, bringing it up to her face and inhaling deeply. She closed her eyes and smiled. Within seconds, she placed my hand at the base of her ear, thus giving me her permission to pet her.
"You smell nice," she said to me. As I gently scratched her behind her ear, she leaned her head down on my legs and rubbed her face on me, purring. Poor thing seemed starved for attention.
"Thank you. You know, if you come to live with me, we could choose a proper name for you; one that you like. You wouldn't be a number anymore. You would be part of my family. Would you like that?"
She sat back on her heels, looking up at me. I looked into her glowing emerald green eyes and saw the hope building in them. "Do you really mean that?" she asked me. "I would never have to come back here again?"
"You would never come back here again. You would live with me forever. I think you and I could be happy together, couldn't we?" I moved my hand to stroke her cheek. She nuzzled her face into my hand, purring so loud she sounded like a motorboat.
"I like you," she admitted, "I would like to belong to you, if you truly want me."
Happily smiling, I said, "Good. That's settled then. I hope you won't mind living with several young men though, because I live with six other guys. But don't worry; they will love you too."
She furrowed her brows together and asked, "But I would belong to only you, right?"
I understood her concern. "Yes, I would be your only master. They might pet and play with you, but you would belong only to me." Her tail, still high, lazily swayed back and forth.
I quickly completed the necessary paperwork, while she waited in the little room. I was handed a gold tag, which she would have to wear on either a collar or a bracelet at all times. As soon as I was finished, I was eager to take her home.
I quickly went back to the room where she waited and told her to go get her things. She looked at me, confused. "You don't have anything?" I asked her, dumbfounded. She shook her head. I looked down at her feet. "Not even shoes?" Again, she shook her head.
"Ok," I said, "we'll have to pick you up a few things to tide you over until we can go on a proper shopping trip. Let's go." I took her hand and walked her out of the building.
Or at least I tried to...at the front door she stopped in the doorway, her tail between her legs and her ears flattened down. I could feel the fear radiating from her. I suddenly realized she had never been outside the building before.
"It's ok. Take your time. I won't rush you," I told her, still holding her hand. She took one step out the door onto the rough concrete and frowned, not wanting to take another step.
"Do you trust me?" I asked her. When she nodded, I picked her up and set her in the grass. Her toes wriggled in the soft grass and a slow smile spread across her pretty face. She stepped back and forth from one foot to the other. After a few moments, she kneeled down and ran her hands through the perfectly manicured lawn. Leaning down, she pressed her face into the grass, smelling it for the first time, her tail twitching back and forth.
"Wow. I never knew grass was so soft and tickly, or that it smelled so good," she exclaimed, as she looked around in wonder. "I kind of want to roll around in it naked," she said laughing.
"That's probably not a good idea right now, but I'll make sure you can do that someday soon, ok? Have you really never felt grass before?" I asked, sad for her limited existence up to now.
"I haven't," she replied. "In fact, except for the bathroom and the mating room, which were attached to the room I was in, I'd never left the room with the window before, except for once when I escaped, but I was punished pretty severely for that."
I helped her to her feet and folded my arms around her, pulling her in for a hug. I don't think she knew how to hug though either, because she fisted my shirt and wrapped her tail around my waist.
"Oh pretty kitty, I have a whole world of new things to show you. You and I are going to have fun!" I told her. She grinned with delight and I took her hand in mine again, "Let's go home."
