"Emerson! EMERSON!!!"I quickly jolted out of my daydream which may or may not have included über hottie, Brian Parker. I glanced around and spied my perky best friend Laura.

"Hey" I said once she fell in stride with me.

"Did you see the posters for homecoming?" She asked excitedly.

I nodded as I had seen the red and white posters flocked around the school. "Are you going?" asked Laura.

You see I , Emerson Burns age 16 wasn't really into those sorts of things. I'd much rather be at soccer practice. I happened to be the youngest girl on the Varisty soccer team. You would think that would score me major points in the popularity department but sadly it didn't. I still was that socially awkward brunette that no one wanted to talk to, except for my teammates and Laura.

Laura however, was the polar opposite of me. She was energetic, a dancer and totally beautiful. She honestly could get any guy in the school but she didn't because she wanted to focus on dance. I guess I was a tad jealous I mean I was a solid 4 in the right lighting while she was a 9.5 on the daily.

"Umm I wasn't thinking of going," I responded.

" Emerson you are ridiculous can't we please go!" She retorted. We turned down the hall and headed towards our lockers. Laura of course wanted to drag me along to yet another dance. Not that I ever go though. I always happen to get deathly ill. Such a coincidence don't you think?

Then all of a sudden I tripped over my own feet and spilled the entire contents of my book bag on the floor. For a soccer player I should be way more talented with my feet coordination but I wasn't.Laura and I scrambled to collect the loose materials.

I could hear some laughs from upperclassmen. My face started to flare up like it always does. I looked up, stupidly I must add and a pair of crystal blue eyes caught mine.

My heart started racing and my face turned even more red. If that's even possible? "Here you go- Emerson" he said.

Oh my god he knows my name. I stood up from the ground and faced him- him being Brian Parker the most popular guy in my grade. He had the whole entire female population swooning over his tan muscular body, witty comebacks and model-like face. That sadly included me. I had tried to stop liking him but as Laura liked to say "The heart wants what the heart wants".

"Thank you," I whispered softly avoiding his eye contact or else my face would flame up again as it had already started receding. " I slung my bag over my shoulder and walked over to my locker and began placing in my books and pulling out binders.

That's when I noticed Brian had followed me to my locker and was currently standing behind me. I looked around to see my BFF (for aid) but she was missing from the crowd. God knows where Laura went. I shut the locker door and started walking towards my English class which I had with Brian.

"Emerson did you get the homework last night?" I looked over and his eyes melted me instantly like gooey chocolate.

"Ummm yah" why was he talking to me all of the sudden I didn't even think he knew my name?

"What did you end up writing about?" He asked genuinely interested.

"Um my summer trip to Europe for soccer," I responded. God why was he talking to me? Not that I was complaining but I don't think we have ever had a conversation in my life time. Except in my dreams... Oh shoot that sounds creepy Em!

Then I started noticing the looks I was getting from walking with Brian. Every girl and female teacher was giving me death glares. If looks could kill I would already be six feet under. With some nice flowers on my grave. Actually probably dead flowers from the look the cheerleaders are giving me.

"Um I have to go" I quickly fled and left Brian standing in the hall with a curious look on his face.
