"But now you're here, and you'll help him. His mother is so excited that he finally has a mate," Jenny laughed. I was glad for the turn of the mood. There had been so much darkness recently. I was glad I could offer some light somewhere, and vice versa.
I took another deep breath and then froze. I knew that scent. I knew it.
"Dad?" I whispered.
I stood up and looked towards the woods. Jenny and Ryn looked that way too, but they didn't smell the same thing I did. They looked at each other confusedly and then back at me.
Mud and oak, that's what my dad smelled like. He was full of earthy scents. I started running that way, pushing through people. I caught Bash's eyes, who was waving at me to stop, but I didn't.
I knew my dad's scent and that was it. He was here.
Pine needles. Dried leaves and blooming flowers. Everything perfect about the ground.
I smiled as I kept running, sprinting up a hill like it was nothing. To me, it practically was.
Tree sap. Cedar wood. Coffee.
Coffee?
I stopped in my tracks, still staring at the border of the woods. Dad hated coffee.
Someone came out of the woods but they were too tall, too muscular to be my dad. My heart dropped. It wasn't my dad, just someone who smelled a lot like him. I was going crazy.
I started to turn around, but the person looked up and I froze. And they froze. And our eye contact could have made the top layer of Hell freeze over.
No.
"Quinn?" He asked. It was a low voice, but I could hear it. And that voice, god damned I'd recognize that voice anywhere.
"Reston?" I sneered. I had been missing him, and I wanted to run into his arms, but the moment I heard his voice I wanted to fight— I wanted to kill him.
His initial happiness broke off of his face too. "Quinn," he repeated, his voice ten octaves lower.
I shifted into my wolf and growled loudly. A small crowd had gathered as Reston walked closer. He shifted as well, his head low to the ground as he stalked towards me.
Sebastián came and set a hand on me but it wasn't enough. Not for this.
Reston began running and so did I.
We clashed together, our teeth aiming for each other throats. He bit at my side and I clawed at his stomach, desperate for him to feel some sort of pain.
Wolves were surrounding us, trying to break us apart, but nothing was working. We were two animals, desperate to kill each other. Only the hand of God could stop the reaper from coming now.
I shifted back to my human self and tackled my brother to the ground, my hands pulling his jaw down and the top of his muzzle up. I was going to break it. I was so close.
Hands wrapped around my naked body and pulled me away. I screamed and kicked, trying to get back to my brother.
I watched an unfamiliar wolf tackle my brother. After I looked into her eyes, I realized that it was Beta Jenny. Her powerful beast had my brother down and no matter how hard he fought, she was far more experienced.
"Let me go!" I screamed.
"I can't do that, Kid," Ryn said.
I tried to shift but wolves couldn't shift if they're being held down.
Ryn kicked a door open and then shut it behind him. He plopped me onto the ground and shook his head at me.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" He asked.
The door opened and Sebastián came in holding a set of clothes. He tossed them to me lightly, but I knew he was angry. He was angry at me, and at my brother. I don't think he had it pieced together though. Neither did Ryn.
"You just attacked someone!" Sebastián yelled. "You can't just do that!" He was breathing as though he had just ran ten miles.
I snarled at him. "He isn't just someone!" I yelled.
"An ex boyfriend? An ex lover!?" Sebastián shouted back.
"Hey, knock it off," Ryn ordered.
"No! Why would you just assume that!?" I screamed.
"Stop it, you two!" Ryn tried again but neither of us were listening.
"Why else would you to hate someone that much?" Sebastián yelled. "Miss. Non violent over here, attacking someone."
"He's my—"
"QUIT!" It was a voice louder than Beta Ryn's, a voice louder than either mine or Sebastián's.
My wolf moved back, and my shy self moved forward. Sebastián looked at the ground, obviously angry but definitely not challenging the Alpha. He couldn't even look Ward in the eyes.
"Someone explain the situation to me by yesterday," Alpha Ward growled out.
Sebastián sighed and then went to answer but I replied first. "Reston is my brother, my older brother. He left my pack to be a Warrior because we had an argument. We haven't talked since but I am apparently still very angry." I looked at Sebastián as he looked down at the ground, ashamed of himself. Good.
Alpha Ward massaged his temples. "A sibling dispute. I left a meeting for a sibling dispute. Beta Graham, handle this, please." Alpha Ward left the house we were in.
"Your... brother? Reston is your brother?" Sebastián asked.
"Yes," I admitted, my hands waving by my side.
Sebastián sat down and began laughing. He looked up and smiled broadly. "Reston is your brother?"
"We've established this, Bash, what's so funny?" Ryn prompted.
"Reston has never mentioned you. He lives with me. He's the guy who showed me the waterfall pond." Sebastián took a huge breath and then let it out, slowly. "This is, ironic."
"You usually do get along very well with your sibling's mate. Even before you know your mate, you may still feel a pull with their siblings and vice versa." Ryn explained. "Reston is still going to have to live with you, Bash. We don't have room anywhere else except your mothers but—"
"Then he's living there," I interrupted.
Ryn shook his head. "Kimberly doesn't let Warriors stay there. It's why Bash was kicked out."
Sebastián never told me he was kicked out. I shot an angry glare towards him. I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned on one hip.
"Oh dear, that's the pose. I'll leave you two here alone while I check on Reston." Ryn left the house, shutting the door behind him quietly.
From there, the situation only got worse.
