"And this is Quinn," Sebastián finished.
Don't shrink into yourself, don't shrink into yourself. I repeated the mantra over and over again.
Alpha Ward reminded me a lot of Alpha Alex, in the sense that they were both blonde with blue eyes. The resemblance stopped there. Alpha Ward wasn't a pen over sword kind of guy, he was a muscle over words person.
Both of his muscled arms were covered in sleeves of tattoos. They disappeared under his shirt and remerged at his neckline, where they crawled over his veins. He had a warrior buzz cut and a stance like one too. His resting face looked more like a sneer than anything else, causing me to look down and away from his gaze.
Bash nudged my shoulder.
"She's your mate?" Alpha Ward asked.
Sebastián smiled. "Yeah, found her in the midst of the chaos."
Alpha Ward smiles softly. "Vivanco told me a little bit about you. If your mate is a warrior, you always transfer to their pack. Vivanco hasn't sent me a letter of resignation from being a warrior, so that means you're staying here."
His voice was scary enough to make mine run away. I nodded instead of speaking.
"He also tells me that multiple packs have tried to recruit you, and that you're a pretty fast little wolf," he said.
I shot Sebastián an angry glance. He knew I didn't want to be a Warrior, why would he give out information that would only ensure my chances of being recruited?
I nodded.
"So how about if I ask to recruit you? I am your new Alpha after all." He smiled teasingly.
I didn't want to be a Warrior. I wasn't the type of person to follow every order shot in my direction.
When several awkward, quiet, seconds passed by, Alpha Ward began laughing. His laugh was loud and obnoxious, a deep tumbling sound. "I'm just kidding, Vivanco told me not to ask. So you know I just had too."
I laughed along quietly.
"You're a shy one, aren't ya? The ceremony of you joining us will be in a week or so, is that alright? I'm sure Mrs. Kimberly Vivanco wouldn't mind lending you a dress." He slapped my shoulder lightly but I still moved to the side slightly.
I shrugged.
Sebastián wrapped his arm around me as Alpha Ward's smile began fading. "I didn't mean you any harm I—"
"You're fine, I'm sorry, I'm just not a talker." I apologized.
He smiled softly. "What's your last name?"
Why did he want to know my last name? What did that have to do with anything? I guess I didn't respond fast enough because Sebastián answered for me.
"West. Quinn West." He winked at me, squeezing me to his side just a little tighter. He knew why I was so awkward and shy. He knew me. In that moment, I had never been more thankful for opening up to someone.
Alpha Ward nodded once. "I'll see ya around West. And Vivanco," Alpha Ward's eyes darkened to the point of the Caspian Sea. "Don't you ever leave my son like that again, or I'll skin you myself."
Sebastián gulped and then tipped an imaginary hat. "I won't, sir."
"Good! Then we don't have any problems. See you both around. Sebastián, your grace period is over two weeks from now."
He took a couple steps back before waving. "It was nice meeting you, West." He grinned before turning around.
"It'll be Vivanco before you know it, so don't worry about remembering West!" Sebastián yelled, laughing.
