PAULA
PAULA HAD RIPPED THROUGH at least ten vampires. Her side was torn open, her back leg hurt like Hell. But she wasn't going to stop fighting.
Currently, she was human. Sitting next to her was her father, Marshal. On the other side of her was her sister, Marie. The three of them could take down an uncountable amount of enemies together. They could wipe out a whole herd of deer in seconds.
"Who did this? Who told them when and where this meeting was?" Marie whispered. The three of them were chained down to a metal pole in the ground, the chains doused in Lotus poison. Lotus was the only thing on the planet that could kill every type of supernatural.
Paula closed her eyes, her mouth bleeding. "We'll probably never know."
Marie scoffed. "Always so negative, Paula."
Paula rolled her eyes. She had always hated Marie, this pack. Marie, the great older sister. The one who got to be one of the great wolves that lined down from Japan. Marie got fluidity. She got grace. She had the Alpha. She was more beautiful, always better. She became Luna Marie Summerhill-Hurth. And Paula... Paula was just regular Paula Summerhill.
Paula had their mother's boring bland Northern North America wolf traits. Stupid brown hair and bland brown eyes. She didn't have a mate, certainly no Alpha. And since Marie wasn't wailing, that meant Alpha Alex was still alive. Sadly.
She had to give the pack up. The pack didn't treat her like they did Marie. And they should have. Because Paula was just as terrifying, and if not than more so.
"We just have to sit here and wait for someone to come get us. Or starve to death." Paula's plan was not for her to get starved to death. She was supposed to leave and start a little campfire, signaling that it was safe for the Hunted to attack.
But they didn't wait.
"Shut up, Paula. We'll find a way out of this."
QUINN
YOU CAN SLOW DOWN, Pierce. I groaned. We were walking back to the pack. We could have ran, but all of us thought it would be better if we showed up later than need be. If we showed up too early and vamps were still there... we wouldn't be able to do much help. Sam and I were humans, me being the translator between Seb, Pierce, and Sam.
I didn't realize I was in charge. You three can slow down, I'm getting there at least semi fast. He argued, continuing on a slightly jogging pace.
Sam ran in front of Pierce and stopped him. "Can you stop running?"
Pierce got low on the ground, his canines bared. His grey and black wolf might have been terrifying, but Sam wasn't scared of it at all. Tell Sam he can hop on my back. But we're going my pace.
"He said you can get on his back," I translated. "We do need to hurry. If we show up too late we might have missed some chances to save lives."
Seb ran against my leg, always looking around. He was definitely prepared for anything, for any fight to come our way.
How far are we? Do you know? Seb asked.
I looked at the familiar trees and rock formations. "We're about five minutes from the pack house."
We had already passed the daycare. No kids were found dead, thank the moon. We had also passed by the Beta's body.
