Lilly's POV

From the depths of a cavern, a glimmer of light shone off in the distance, enticing me to reach for it—so I did. But my fingertips touched a cold, dank surface slick like icicles instead. I continued, pressing further, reaching for a small crevice to slither my hand inside for traction.

Keep on moving.

I had no other choice. The warmth of the light was above. Below—only a casket awaited, welcoming me to an eternal darkness. I bit my lip, letting go and reaching for a ledge just out of my reach.

Miss.

My body sunk into an abyss, plummeting a million miles per second. As the darkness enveloped me, the air grew thin, choking out my screams. Then, a flash of light illuminated this empty chasm where a million glowing eyes peered in my direction. Once the brilliance had dicipated, I felt a calm. No longer falling, the air appeared lighter as if I were gliding effortlessly through a space vortex.

Then, warmth—but not just any warm sensation, though; it was an oddly familiar warmth akin to a mother's bosom.

How is that possible?

Didn't I fall?

"Lilly."

Wait a minute. I know this voice.

"Lilly."

Yes. I do; it's deepsoothing.

"Lilly."

Sexy.

Just a shadow at first, my eyes struggled to make out shapes and contours, "A-a-dam?" I whispered brokenly.

"I'm taking you to the E—"

"—No!" I interrupted.

My lips were trembling.

Don't let go.

"What is wrong with you?" said Adam with a genuine concern swept over his face.

My eyes just welled. I knew all too well what had taken place; this was the aftermath.

Sarah?

I patted my body, checking the pockets.

"What are you looking for?" said Adam.

"Can I borrow your phone?"

"Umm ... sure," he muttered, reaching for his pocket, producing a thin, black device. "Here."

My fingers shook uncontrollably as I tapped the screen, starting with the numbers four, six, and nine.

"C'mon," I exhaled. My arm shook with a jerking, vibrating motion as if my blood sugar levels were too low, which made it difficult to hold Adam's cell phone steady to my left ear.

"Are we going to t—"

"—Hello," I cut Adam off, raising my right index finger to eye level. "Sarah?" I said, continuing, "Sarah?"

"Lilly," answered a soft voice on the other line.

"Oh my God, Sarah, are you all right?" I said, exhaling and taking sips of breaths as my heartbeat slowed down a couple of notches.

Tears streamed down my cheeks, closing my eyes. I heard crying form the other side, which was an oddly great sensation.

She's alive!

"I-I'm okay, sis ..." said Sarah.

I patted my chest, staring toward the heavens as I finally leaned back, relaxing my posture.
