Many years ago I met a young girl. She was pregnant but regardless she became my best friend. The day she became a mother was the day she became an angel at the tender age of 14. She gave birth to a beautiful healthy girl. Sadly the girl's birthday is the anniversary of her mother's death. This is how I met my best friends daughter. This is the story of our life after a mother's death.

"Push, PUUShHH one more you can do it," said the doctor. "NO, I can't it hurts," I hear my voice speak the truth as my vision becomes dark and blurry, I know I'm losing conscience. I'm losing the battle to live. "Soff, you can do this just a little longer just hold on," the voice of an angel spoke, no denying it was Joshua. The best person a girl like me could ask to have in her life. I give another push with the strength I have left; and to my relief I hear the cries of my baby, and I know she made it. The doctors rush to leave the room and Josh hot on their tails. Before he could make it out the door I call for him, "wait" my voice is weak and hoarse. I manage to completely get my thoughts out before he speaks, "I know I'm only almost 15 but you talked me into going through with this even after what the doctors said. I know you're not the father, but you are my best friend and for all intensive proposes her godfather, even if you area year younger than me." I take a moment before continuing, "the only thing I ask from you is that you do what you can to make sure she has someone like you in her life, even if that doesn't happen till many years from now. Promise me she will have someone who loves her unconditionally, someone who she can always depend on to be there, someone she trusts not only with her life; but her heart. If she ends up in the system, I then pray she just won't end up broken beyond repair. That is my wish, so please do what you can to make it her reality." My voice fades into a whisper, and I don't want him here for this next part; the part where I let go. "Go give my Lena-Renae a kiss for me," his reply was spoken softly and filled with despair, "as you wish."
