Looking at their finances, 18-year-old Violet knew that she could raise her siblings without an income. She would have the money to send Klaus to any college he wanted to go to when the time came without the need for scholarships; to put Sunny in a private elementary school to suit her intellect; to raise Beatrice Snicket to want for nothing. She didn't have to find a job or get a degree. There really was no need to learn to drive; why, when Violet could simply hire a driver?

But she didn't want to. Just because she could do the bare minimum to keep her siblings happy didn't mean that would make her happy. Klaus and Sunny would go to private schools that would foster their intelligence. Beatrice would go to preschool- there was no reason to wait to start her schooling. And Violet would take the GED, learn to drive, and go to a community college in the city where she lived, studying engineering.

Violet would become an engineer, in time. She promised herself that. And she would make sure that nothing would ever hurt them again.
