Michael and I exchanged a glance. An office in such an open area was maybe alright with me but certainly not him.

The tones in this house could be summarized as white, grey and light brown. Modern, empty and simple nailed this house on its head. It was built to be modern, to be pleasant to look at - but it didn't strike me at all. I almost found it boring.

Mrs Ruth went on to tell us how the kitchen isle was perfect for when we had to cook for a lot of people, how all the tops were quartz counter tops, we had a pantry, dual refrigerators, a formal dining room with built-in butler station and a wine bar!

As she reached the second floor with us, using the floating staircase that was in the middle of the office it seemed, she went on about this magnificent master bedroom, master bath with fitted dual vanities, heated floors, laundry rooms - but it didn't strike me in the slightest.

Especially as we saw the back of the house.

"This looks ... interesting", Michael said what I had thought as we both looked up.

I was still partly thinking how you could see the closed off office from the living room which just made me shake my head.

The chimney thingy, I had no clue what it was called, went straight through the back of the house, disrupting the many windows on the back.

"A chimney outside is quite indeed interesting! For the cooler evenings when your fiancée and you want to be cuddled up!", she suggested in a sing-sang voice.

She had tried to turn it around to something more positive, but we had made up our minds.

I put my hand through Michael's arm, who had one arm crossed, the other rubbing his beard thoughtfully. I slid my hand into the sweet spot where his forearm and upper arm met and rested it there. Michael stopped rubbing his beard and gave my hand a squeeze. No glance needed.

He smiled a charming smile at her. "Marvelous house indeed - what's our next one?"

503 Brookside Rd

White house, grey roof, black door.

Front porch extended, supported by pillars, the way to it was paved but uniquely with steps in between. The front of the house was slightly hidden by a big tree in front of it, but it added to its charm.

"The house almost seems shy", I told Michael.

"I get what you mean", he pointed at the tree. "Though I think it's sad that it's hiding the view."

"Getting rid of it won't be a problem", Mrs Ruth informed us. "This piece has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms."

I understood why Mrs Ruth had kept it that shortly.

That house was ...

"Interesting", I told them this time.

"The interior could use some help", she agreed. "But I thought about showing you this house for the simple layout it has. The living room looks into the dining room, which is separated from any other room. If you wanted to add a farmhouse style door that would be completely possible."

Mrs Ruth led us to another room, which was an office. The table was rather small and in the middle, facing the wall and back-facing the windows, which was odd. On the wall to the table's left, or as you sat in it your left, was a book wall. Nothing else was in the room. The hardwood floor was darker than the last house's I just noticed.

The whole house was darker actually. Black and dark brown. It seemed gloomy and dark.

What confused me next was the kitchen. It had a cutout in the wall which looked into a small sitting area. Next to the sitting area was yet another dining area. Why have a separate dining room if you had a dining area connected to the kitchen?
