— THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WRITING A FULL SCENE WITH JUST NANCY AND EL, TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK! —

michael wheeler sat on his living room couch, a petite girl sitting beside him with her head resting lazily on his shoulder.

he smiled softly as he glanced down at the girl and her mesmerizing features. the little things like the barely noticeable freckles that coated her nose and cheeks, and her long eyelashes that were currently closed as she slept.

he broke his gaze away from eleven, returning to the previous task of working on his science homework. it was only april of mike's eighth grade year, but he could already feel the pressure of his final months at hawkins middle school.

just as he was getting back to doing his work, he jolted as he heard a loud shriek come from the doorway.

"el, help me pick out my prom dress!" mike's older sister, nancy, screeched. she entered the living room, dozens of shopping bags in her hands.

mike's eyes widened as he immediately shushed her, nervous his older sister's voice would've woken up his girlfriend.

sure enough, the brunette slowly began to open her eyes, her nose twitching as she did so.

"s-sorry i fell asleep." she apologized groggily, staring up at mike and playing with the hem of his sweater.

"it's okay, sorry that nancy woke you up." mike tucked a strand of el's caramel hair behind her ear, shooting a glare at nancy.

"well who else can help me pick out the dress? this is the most important night of my life, which you clearly don't understand." nancy complained.

"can't holly or mom just help you?!" mike fought back.

"el does a way better job than them!" nancy proclaimed, already grabbing el's hand and lifting her off of the couch.

"that's not fair! she's my girlfriend!" mike called after the two girls, who were already halfway up the stairs.

"she's my friend!" nancy retorted, leading el into her bedroom.

once the door shut behind them, nancy let out a heavy sigh and cleared a place on her bed for el.

"okay, i'm going to try these on in the bathroom, and you tell me what you think afterwards. okay?" nancy chirped, a wide smile spread across her face.

"o-okay." el answered, still not quite understanding what was going on.

as eleven waited for nancy to appear in the doorway with her first dress on, she couldn't help but think back to the last time she put on a dress.

it was the night of the snowball. she promised herself she would never forget the feeling she experienced where she looked into the cabin's bathroom mirror and saw the blue and pink polka- dotted dress.

her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of nancy's bedroom door cracking open.

el's eyes widened in awe as she saw the older girl she admired standing in the doorway with a vibrant purple dress on, that stretched down to the bottom of her legs and complimented her hourglass figure.

"you look very pretty, nancy." el complimented her genuinely.

she couldn't help but feel a surge of jealously wash over her. el spent minute after minute scrutinizing her appearance, but still found herself not being satisfied with her features. it seemed like nancy didn't even have to try to look beautiful; she just purely was.
