"MISS ZIEGLER, YOU ARE IN ACADEMIC PROBATION," Ms. Reed said in a concerned tone, slipping a sheet of paper on my desk.
"Ms. Reed, this can't be. I'm sure this is a mistake, I only got a B- in two subjects—" I attempt to convince but it just doesn't work out.
"Mackenzie, trust me, I don't want you to experience this. But, in this school, you can only get one B-. I know, we're not like other schools, we have firmer rules when it comes to grades and marks." She stated again with care.
"Maybe you're distracted? Is there anything wrong with the Orlando's?" She asks again.
"No, but whatever it is, I'm so sorry, Ms. Reed." I apologize.
"Look, Mackenzie, I know you can get better scores. In all your other subjects, you got A's, nothing below an A. I don't know what happened, but I believe in you. Don't let these grades define who you are, you are a wonderful and talented student." Ms. Reed points out making small steps around the classroom. "I'm sorry, but you can't go to the upcoming dance."
"Ms. Reed, with all due respect, I think this is wrong. Can't I just make it to the dance and get my grades up afterwards?" I try and try again.
Ms. Reed sighs, "I'm sorry. I'm not allowed by our authorities to do that. The system just doesn't work that way."
"No, it's not your fault, Ms. Reed. Thank you." I speak, standing up from my seat and heading out the door quickly. Then, I bump into Lauren.
"Mackenzie? You okay?" She questions and I just nod simply, walking away fast.
