1.6 Delivery On The Highway

Kelly "come on, let's go"

He and i walked out.

Kelly threw the cup to Jenkins "sorry it took so long"

Jenkins caught it with wide eyes.

On the highway.

The car stopped and we all got out.

A car crash, great.

A woman yelled "over here. My husband-please, you have to help him."

Chief yelled "gonna get that truck?"

Hermann yelled "i got it, chief"

We all started to bring the people out of the cars and to safety.

I ran to a car and saw its windshield broken. A woman was sitting in there.

Me "hey, you okay?"

She was whimpering.

I yelled "Hermann!"

Hermann and Mills ran to me.

Me "the windshield"

They nodded.

I said to the woman "cover your face"

The guys took the windshield off"

The woman started to scream.

I looked at the man in the car "sir, we're gonna get her out. Well get a paramedics here as soon as we can"

Guy "she's a having a baby"

My jaw dropped.

She started to pant.

The guy yelled "do something!"

I yelled to the guys "guys, we need to move this car and get this door open"

Everyone helped to move the car.

Casey broke the door open.

Hermann helped the guy out of the car.

I tried to move the woman out of the car but i only could move her to sit my way before she started to scream.

I said into the radio "Dawson, Shay? I need you guys here. "

Dawson "We're stuck here, Florence, Arterial bleed"

Me "Well, im stuck here too. woman giving birth"

Dawson "is the baby crowning?"

I looked around and realized that the guys had backed off. Looks like i had to do it now. Great, guys.

I lifted the dress of the woman and pulled it up her thighs.

I said into the radio "yeah, i can see the top of the head"

The woman cried out "oh god. He's coming! i can feel him coming!"

I said into the radio "you heard her?"

Dawson "okay, you're gonna have to do this, Flo"

I asked half amused and half helpless "you can not be serious!"

Dawson "i wish i wasn't"

I took my jacket and my helmet off and handed them to Otis "okay what's your name?"

She cried out "Carol"

I put the radio on speaker "He's coming"

Dawson "all right, Flo, tell me what you see"

Me "The head. I can see that head.it keeps coming out and then going back in. "

Dawson "tell her to push"

I looked at the woman "okay, i need you to push, Carol. "

She cried out.

Me "you can do it, Carol. Harder, you need to push harder"

The baby was halfway there.

I nodded "okay, one more push. Take a deep breath and push!"

She groaned in pain and pushed.

I grabbed the baby. the dad gave me his jacket and i wrapped it around the baby.

Dawson "Flo?"

I froze "He's not crying. i don't think he's breathing"

Dawson "it's an obstructed airway. you ave to put your mouth over the baby's nose and mouth and breath for it just like CPR"

I nodded okay. I leaned down to the baby and put my mouth over the baby's nose and mouth and breathed a little into them. I tried it a few times.

Dawson "Flo?"

Carol cried "is he okay, is he okay?"

I did it again.

Suddenly i heard the baby cry,.

I breathed out relieved.

Then i handed him to the mother who smiled at the brother.

I stood up and walked over to the guys.

The guys applauded for me.

I smiled, out of breath.

Casey walked to me "well, done, Flora"

I nodded "thanks"

Then he hugged me.

At the firehouse.

We were all sitting at the table, again.

Mils walked to us with the turkey and put it on the table.

Mouch "this is it"

Chief "Great shift, men. Proud of all of you"

Then he looked at the turkey "Leon, your time is here."

Cruz "hey, uh, Chief, maybe another name?"

Chief nodded "sure"

Mouch "call it "Jenkins the piss guy""

We all laughed.

The chief started to cut the turkey "Jenkins it is. You'll be pleased to know that all your tests came through negative on Meth or any other drugs"

We all cheered.

Kelly looked at me and nodded.

I nodded back.

Otis called out "god bless us, everyone"

Hermann "Damn, Peter Mills, you were not kidding about that stuffing"

The chief started to cutting the turkey.

Cruz "hey, chief don't be stingy with the turkey."

Chief chuckled "get out of here"

I put some cranberries on my plate.

Dawson "hey, Flo"

I looked ta her "yeah?"

Dawson "you know what your first delivery means?"

I asked amused but hopeful "I get a week off?"

Then I shot the Chief a look who just looked at me amused.

Chief smiled "you wish"

I shrugged "it was worth a try"

Then i looked at Dawson.

Dawson "everyone buys you a round"

I cheered "yeah, finally!"

Chief chuckled"dig in!"

I raised my glass "happy thanksgiving, family!"

They all cheered with me.
