I followed Dax, rage consuming my every being. Seb had the nerve to walk away from me with that whore. We reached a door, and Dax opened it. I entered behind him and slammed it shut. I saw him calmly set my suitcase down. I hadn't even noticed he had it. He turned to face me and wrapped his arms around my waist. I sighed and nuzzled into him.

"Relax, love. He's just upset," Dax murmured. I pulled away and looked up at him.

"Yes, I know. It's just....I guess it hurts that my friend of many years doesn't trust me. It's all thanks to that slut," I said. He kissed my neck, causing a shiver to erupt through my spine.

"Did she do this to your cheek?' he asked me, caressing it softly.

"Yeah, but I'm fine," I said. He ran his finger along the scratch, and a tingling sensation was left on my cheek. He froze and I looked at him. He had a look of confusion, just as me. "What did you do?" I asked, reaching to my cheek, no longer feeling any hint of a scratch.

"I don't know," he replied in awe. "It seems I've healed you," he said, barely above a whisper. "Or I've...." he trailed off, eyes widening.

"What? You've what?" I asked, perplexed.

"I've only sped up your healing process," he said.

"How's that possible? I mean I lost my healing ability a long time ago. And why would you have that power over me.....I mean my mate is....and you can't have a mate.....Dax?" I said, looking at him for answers.

"I don't know Al. Remember what your mother told us? How our bond was different? It was stronger than any other bond between a royal and protector," he replied.

"Yeah. She said it was stronger than a mate bond. And that vision she had....about us being together..." I trailed off. "But why make me have a mate at all? And I lost my abilities. I don't understand," I said, frowning.

"I'm not sure...." he trailed off, deep in thought. "Alessa....would you....." he trailed off again and turned away from me.

"Would I what?" I asked. He was hesitant in replying. "Dax?" I insisted.

"Nothing. Forget I asked," he said, still not meeting my eyes.

"Tell me, Dax. I don't want to force it out of you," I said sternly.

"Well, um. Would you accept me as your mate?" he asked, looking at me with such a fragile expression. I couldn't help but smile.

"Why wouldn't I? Daxton, you've been the greatest person to ever cross my path. You're so much more than just my protector. You're my confidante, my best friend, my life saver, literally. You're my everything. You've been there for me when no one else has. Dax, you deserve so much better than me," I said. He growled at this.

"It's you who deserves better, love...but I would kill whoever attempts to get near you," he said. He pulled me into him and nuzzled my neck. He pulled back slightly and pecked my lips. "I love you Alessa. Will you do me the honors of being my girlfriend and future mate? I promise to protect you, love you, and care for you at all times. I give you my heart to keep forever and always," he said, looking straight at me. I smiled and closed my eyes. I opened them a few seconds later.

"Yes, Dax. I would love to be your girlfriend and future mate. I can't give you my complete heart just yet, unfortunately. I mean, maybe you should find some-" he brought his finger to my lip, silencing my ramble.

"I understand you must accept his rejection. I can help you forget him, love. I love you so much, Alessa, and I don't care how much longer I have to wait for your heart. I'll be patient. I won't give up on us. Just give me an opportunity, Lessi. I won't ever hurt you, I cross my heart and hope to die," he said. I let a tear fall unconsciously.

"Remember that promise we made when I was seven and you ten?" I asked as he wiped my stray tear. He laughed and caressed my cheek.

"Yes, I remember clearly. You made me take off your cute little pigtails because you hated them," he chuckled. "And then you kissed my cheek. You asked me if I liked you. And I said yes," he continued, his eyes brightening and his smile revealing small cute dimples.

"You turned red," I laughed. "And then we promised we'd be each other's mate," I continued.

"We will be, after all, love," he said, his smile widening. He leant into me and brought his lips onto mine. I closed my eyes and kissed him back. I wrapped my arms around him as he wrapped his arms around my waist. "And this time, no one will take you away from me. I won't let you escape me anymore," he spoke against my lips.

"No one," I smiled, and he resumed our kissing. He bit my lower lip teasingly, making me grip his hair slightly. He chuckled against my lips, a very husky chuckle that drove a shiver up my spine. Just then, my phone rang. I opened my eyes and took my phone out of my pocket. The screen read "Dad". Crap! I forgot to call him! I clicked 'answer' and brought the phone up to my ear. "Except my dad," I smiled. He looked at me confused. "Hi, dad," I chirped. "I know, I'm sorry. I've had an eventful evening," I said. "Well..." and that's how I began to retell my favorite dad, the all-mighty Alpha Reed, the events since my arrival at the Forest Pack, which caused Dax to chuckle. This, of course, didn't go unheard by my dad, so he went on to question me about who was with me. "Wait, what???" I asked, my eyes widening.

"Love, is something wrong?" Dax asked. I held up my finger with a smile. I shook my head, grinning.

"This should be fun," I laughed. "Okay, dad. We'll be there. Love you too. Bye," I said, ending the call.

"What?" Dax asked expectantly.

"My dad, a.k.a Alpha Reed, invited us to a pack barbecue this Saturday," I said. "He says he wants to meet, I quote, 'his favorite baby girl's boyfriend'," I said with a laugh. Dax smiled.

"I'd love to meet your dad, princess," he said, kissing my lips softly. I grumbled.

"Stop calling me that. It's bad enough I truly am one," I sighed. He grinned and kissed my cheek.
