He looked from Sam to Seb before shaking his head. "Who?"

I tilted my head. "The— the vampire who just tackled me down!" I yelled. "Who else?"

"Q, nobody was there." Sam was watching me carefully, as if I might hurt someone. Like I was a time bomb. "There was no vampire."

I closed my eyes. I felt fine. "Why was I on the ground then?"

Pierce groaned. "You tripped! We don't have time for this, Quinn. We need to help Maggie."

I must have tripped, but my head. Why was I the only one who saw her? Who was she?

Maggie. I turned to Maggie and slid to her side, hugging her close to my chest. "Oh I'm so glad you're okay." I cried, trying to take my mind off of the vampire girl. She was never there, I was lying to myself. It was just nerves and a bad tumble. "Where's Matt?" I asked.

Maggie made panicked expressions from Pierce to the ground. "He's gone," She said.

Matt was Pierce's last family member. That was everyone he loved. Gone.

Maggie began crying, her whole body trembling from the painful memory. "It was terrible. He saved me." She cried. "They killed him in front of me." She grabbed onto my shirt as a small, quiet, scream escaped my throat.

"My mom? Have you seen my parents?" I asked.

It would be a pleasure to ruin your mother's castle of lies. My mom wasn't a liar. The vampire had no idea what she was talking about.

The vampire... wasn't real.

She was only a trick of my head.

Maggie shook her head. "I don't know who's alive or who's dead. The Lotus is... keeping people from mind linking."

Pierce came to stand next to me, a pair of sweats on. He shook his hands out. "Hey, you mind helping me with this?" He asked Seb. Pierce was trying to distract himself, from everything. I could tell that that charade wouldn't last long. He was sinking lower and lower. His family was gone. Even if his mom wasn't slowly going insane, she would never be happy again.

It took a lot to break chains. If they were bound to you, you couldn't break them. If you weren't... you had a chance of breaking someone else's but it took a lot of strength. And it wasn't like you could do it a lot.

"No. Don't break mine. Go find the stronger people so they can help." She cried as she moved her ankle. Her chain was short, only a foot or two long.

Pierce nodded. "Okay. Do you know where Alpha and Luna Hurth are? Or if they're alive?"

Maggie shut her eyes. "Uh umm..." she tapped her fingers in the dirt. One of her nails had been torn off. "Try the day care. Luna Hurth said she was going after the kids."

Sam shook his head. "We passed there!" He yelled.

"Well if you don't feel it, she's not dead." Maggie tried to give him a little hope. "I can't feel anything because of these stupid chains!"

"Not to rush, but we need to go find the others." Pierce grabbed my arm. Bash growled and took a threatening step towards Pierce. "Don't touch me, mutt." He snarled at Bash.
