Truce

Day 2 of 3.

I checked my email before storming out of the office for the much-awaited party.

According to Karol's email, may pakulo siyang naisip para mapapunta si Jenna mag-isa sa venue.

Okay, that's good. What's left is the epic show Henry and I will put on just to make Jenna feel at ease.

Wala eh. I was almost ready to surrender, pero siya itong mismong nagiging balakid dahil sa paglilihim niya sa akin. Kahit anong anggulo ko tignan, hindi ko talaga maarok kung saang banda naging beneficial ang paglilihim sa taong sabi mo 'mahal mo' naman. Where's the trust there?

Madami ng tao pagdating ko sa venue. I greeted all of them— which was only proper because I was the one who invited them here.

Masaya ako na nakarating din sila Denzel. This time, sila naman ni Treble ang bisita. They even brought some of their friends— Sven, Yuri, Dylan and Shyden.

Nakita ko rin ang mga pinsan ko— na magiging cousins-in-law  na ni Jenna— na nagkukumpulan sa isang tabi. I saw Aris, Franco, Dyann and even my aunts and uncles.

"Nasaan si Trench?" I asked them.

"Nagre-rehearse." They said. Aha! May naaamoy akong pasabog.

"Papunta na rin pala sila Scott at Spade, ate." Dagdag ni Franc.

"Iba talaga si Scott, iba makabantay kay Karoline." Aris commented.

Sila lang dalawa? Not that I want their "other brother" to be present, too, but Trench has been friends with Ringo since grade school. I think he should be here to support his friend. Isa pa, confident ako na hindi na ako apektado. Hindi na gaya ng dati.

Nag-invite rin ako ng ibang friends and classmates ni Jenna, pero dahil busy sila sa kani-kanilang celebrations, lima lang sa mga 'yun ang nakarating.

"She's here! Nasa may pinto na siya!" Karoline popped out of nowhere para timbrehan kami.

Sa isang iglap ay sumulpot rin si Trench hawak ang kaniyang gitara at pumwesto sa mini stage sa harap.

Langya, ako yung nagugulat sa mga nasasaksihan ko eh.

Napatingin kaming lahat sa pinto ng function hall dahil nagbabadya na itong bumukas. Suddenly the lights went low and the spotlight was on my cousin, who, by the way, looked really nervous.

He began to strum the guitar. Na-recognize ko kaagad ang kanta; it was one of the songs Jenna liked to sing whenever she's in the shower.

Bumukas ang pinto.

May isa pang spotlight at kay Jenna naman ito nakatutok. As if they were the only ones present.

She's gorgeous. I wonder what Karoline told her para mapagayak siya ng ganoon but she's really dressed for the occasion.

As prepared as she was in terms of attire, halata namang gulat na gulat si Jenna at nalilito. Clearly, she was expecting something else. But all in all, the event seemed more like a wedding than it did a celebration for her graduation.

Sinulyapan ko si Karoline. She smiled and nodded as if saying, "That's exactly what Jenna wants, so trust me and chill out."

Kasabay ng pagkanta ni Trench ay naramdaman ko na may humawak sa aking bewang.

I looked northeast and saw Henry's face. The lights were dim but I could clearly see that it was him. I don't know if it was because of the ambiance, or because of my cousin's song, but I suddenly felt something weird. And I suddenly come to think: damn, I don't think I want to ever let go of this man anymore.
