~ With the body, we survive
With our souls we're aliveMen are no monsters
Who broke a heart healed anotherI remember I once slept on a balcony,
watched the smoke leave a factory
Spotted a man crying and sipping his beer,
he seemed in pain and full of fearHe didn't notice me 'cause he didn't think,
a little girl like me would be awake,
at this time of the day,
at this age in her life
analyzing the world and wondering if men,
would work this early and that hard to burn a little girl's heartThey'd let the smoke into the early skies
for another young soul to notice and cry
But little girls can't run away so fast
they always fall and get trappedBut men are no monsters
Who broke a heart healed anotherHe finished his beer and I drifted away
But you wouldn't imagine how it felt,
I saw him running down the sidewalk with his little girl to a park where I wasHe sang her songs I didn't know,
bought her the kind of candy I craved so,
loving her unlike I've seen beforeAnd as I swung back and forth on my own
I split with my reality blinking at the display of joy
What could only make sense now I realized is that
Men and women,
Little boys and girls,
We're all on this journey
Being swung back and forth
Given the bitter and the sweet
But here I am smiling through this ride because
People are no monsters
Who laughed today, sobbed another
Who hurt you today, died anotherForgive me, father.
.love.
