T H I R T Y O N E

Start from the beginning

"You're such a pushover, Jangmi." She says, rolling her eyes at me. I tut as a response and get up from the couch to make another cup of coffee.

Soon after Hyerin follows me to the kitchen, resting her arms on the marble countertop. "Sorry. I didn't mean that. Why don't we go out? I think we're both in need of some retail therapy!" She squeals excitedly. That doesn't sound like a bad idea...

"I guess I could look for an outfit just in case we do go out tonight." I say innocently. "Yes! We're taking your car." She says, throwing me the keys and rushing to the front door.

We reach the shopping centre, and immediately I notice people staring at me as we walk inside. I can hear whispers of mine and Yoongi's name, people in the distance taking photos and watching me. I ignore it as best as I can and walk into the first store with my arm linked with Hyerin's.

"What about this? Do you like it, does it suit me?" Hyerin asks, holding up a black overall mini dress, white underlining with long sleeves and a chain shoulder bag. "I love it! It's definitely you." I say, giving her an enthusiastic smile. She hums happily, purchasing it and changing into it immediately in the changing rooms; placing her original clothes in the bag. She looks amazing.

 She looks amazing

Hyerin and I have been shopping for several hours, forgetting the time. We're both overfilled with multiple bags on each arm, getting tired due to the weight. Hyerin checks her watch and lets out a gasp. "It's 6pm! I promised Jimin I'd make dinner tonight. Shit!" She shrieks. "It's alright, we'll go back." I say, trying to calm her down. I check my phone and see still no text or missed call from Yoongi. Really? The day is nearly over and he couldn't take 2 seconds to at least text me happy anniversary?

I start to feel a mixture of upset and anger. Did he forget, or is he really just busy?

We jump in my car and I drop Hyerin back off at my house for her to get in her car and drive back to the dorm. "Thank you for today, I really enjoyed it. Drive safely, okay?" I say, giving her a tight hug. "Of course! Have a nice night." She smirks before jumping in her car and pulling out of my driveway.

Why the smirk?

As I stand on the driveway in the dark alone, I feel a sudden gush of sadness as I come to the realisation Yoongi still isn't here, and he still hasn't spoken to me today. I walk sulkily up the steps and open the door to the house.

As I step inside, everything is pitch black; except for a faint flickering light coming from the end of the hall. Intrigued, I place my bags on the floor and I follow the light.

Immediately I stop when I see a trail of candles and rose petals on the ground, leading me to the backyard. As I venture outside and down the steps, I see it leads further down. I can feel a lump forming in my throat, overwhelmed from the beautiful scene.

The hue of the light is serene and romantic

The hue of the light is serene and romantic. I follow the path cautiously, my hand clutching my chest and my vision becoming blurry due to the tears building in my eyes.

As I reach the end of the path and turn the corner, I see a stunning set up of a dinner table on the decking. The table is surrounded by lit candles, and the tree behind is decorated with fairy lights. I cup my mouth with my hand, holding back the tears. I've never seen something more beautiful in my life.

I stand on the spot, taking it in; until I feel two hands snake around my waist, pulling me into their body.

"Happy anniversary..."
