"I can't or you won't?" I argued.
"Marshal!" Pierce yelled.
Marshal Summerhill was our pack Gamma, a type of third in command. Other packs had them but they weren't given title of Gamma, they were just called Pack Trainers. They were one and the same. But should the Luna, Alpha, Beta, Beta's wife, and all children and siblings be dead or unfit for power, the Gamma was in charge. It rarely happened unless the supernatural world was in a state of emergency or a Pack was very new and didn't have a long lined dynasty. Gamma Marshal also happened to be Luna Marie's father.
"Yeah, Pierce?" Marshal looked from me to Pierce. Marshal was a tall man with blackish brown hair and a muscular build. His daughters looked more like their father than their mother, with their high cheekbones and earthly green eyes.
"Explain to this... little girl... that she can't legally fight me." He narrowed his eyes at me.
Marshal looked from me to Pierce. "Pierce. Surprised you're scared of a fight. Do you even know who this is?" Marshal asked.
I loved Marshal. I spent a lot of Summers training under Marshal's command. Marshal and my dad went way back. The Gamma and the guy in charge of finances had to get along. Finances were a little small for Betas and Alphas to worry about unless there was a specific need. So all talking about it went to the Gamma and... well my dad. Had Luna Marie of been my age, I'm sure we'd be best friends from how often we would have seen each other.
So when I asked Marshal for lessons... he was all about helping me in his free time.
"It doesn't matter. She's not an Alpha or a Gamma and it's therefor dangerous for us to train together. It would do more harm than productivity. It's against the law." Pierce wasn't exactly wrong. But this pack broke that law a lot. Marshal's daughters fought whoever they wanted whenever they wanted. I admired them. Both Luna Marie and Paula. And it wasn't just them illegally fighting people too low for them. Pierce's slightly younger brother, Matthew, me and Maggie's best friend, did the same. Alpha Alex was fine with it.
Marshal smiled. "So don't play offense. Just defense. Unless you need to."
"Fine." Pierce slipped his shirt off and jogged to a circle. I did the same, pulling off my shirt so I was in my sports bra.
He held his hands up, calming his breathing.
I ran towards him and he rolled away. "Come on, hit me." He laughed.
The rules when dueling were, the first four minutes of a fight were human v human. The next four minutes were wolf v wolf. The last three minutes of a fight were whatever, and that's when people got dirty with their fights.
I went towards him and he dodged to the side. Again, he underestimated how fast I was. I was in front of the spot he was dodging too before he was.
I pulled my arm back and then hit his nose, feeling something break under my knuckles. The action hurt a lot more than I expected. I shook my hand out as he back pedaled.
Pierce snarled at me.
I tried to kick his side but he grabbed my leg. He tried to pull up to make me lose balance. In fighting, you always had options. Mine were either bringing that foot forward and punching his broken nose again or jumping and kicking his knee back. Both were painful. Very painful.
