Winter was Connor Murphy's favorite season. He loved waking up in the morning to fresh snowfall piling up along his windowsill. Sometimes he would wake up early, make himself a cup of coffee, and sit outside on his porch with several blankets just to watch it fall. And he never missed his afternoon walks in the below freezing weather through the park that was only a few blocks away from his home.

It had been a few years since he and the rest of his senior class graduated from high school. Since then, Connor decided to skip on the college life, although he did think about taking up online courses.

He got a job almost immediately after graduating at a coffee shop he and Evan Hansen had discovered one day. A year afterward, the owner approached him with an offer Connor couldn't refuse. The owner, a kind old man with at least ten grandchildren that had taken Connor under his wing when the newly graduated boy was struggling to find a decent job, was retiring to fulfill his lifelong dream: wine tasting around the world. He wanted Connor to have the business, and that's how Connor Murphy came to own the coffee shop that holds a special place in his heart.

Evan. Connor would forever be grateful for all that the boy, now fully fledged adult, had done. He gave him a reason to live another day when Connor felt that there was no point. And he wasn't going to deny that he had a massive crush on his socially awkward friend still to this day, but he wouldn't tell Evan. He wasn't going to risk losing the only person he felt actually cared about him over something as stupid as emotions, and he didn't want to make things awkward between him and his neighbor.

Out of sheer luck and pure coincidence, Evan Hansen and Connor Murphy were neighbors.

Connor had moved into his small abode months before Evan did, and the long-haired man unknowingly was the one responsible for Evan living at his current address. Jared Kleinman (yes, the Jared Kleinman. They still kept in touch for reasons unknown after they graduated) had visited Connor at the coffee shop, and they got to the subject of houses somehow. Connor passingly mentioned that his neighborhood was really nice and there were a few open homes at a good price.

Not more than a month later, Connor found a moving van parked in front of the neighboring house. He first recognized Heidi Hansen, Evan's mother, who was helping her son unload some rather heavy furniture.

"Would you like some help with that?" Connor asked. He approached the young adult and his mother as they struggled to pull a small, two-seater couch out of the moving van.

"Connor!" Heidi exclaimed, dropping her end of the couch and hugging the taller man tightly, "It's so good to see you again, stranger."

Connor chuckled, easing his way into returning the hug. He wasn't used to physical contact, even though he'd known the Hansens' love for hugging a while ago, "It's nice to see you too, Ms. Hansen." Connor turned his attention to Evan, who had given up on the couch and was occupying his hands with wringing them in the hem of his shirt.

"Hi", that dusty blonde said shyly, and Connor took a moment to study Evan's appearance. They hadn't seen each other in a while, so Connor noticed that Evan no longer had a baby face. It had filled out to reveal cheekbones and a soft jawline. He had gained some muscle definition, although it wasn't much. But he still had the same sky blue eyes and the nervous smile that Connor had fallen head over heels for. Evan simply looked like his younger self melted away to reveal an older version. And Connor wasn't complaining. In fact, it made Connor that more attracted to his soon-to-be neighbor.
