Connor walked off the field taking off his helmet. "See you tomorrow," he called back to his teammates as he walked up the hill to the parking lot. He almost tripped when he saw who was sitting there in the grass. Evan Hansen. The quiet kid from his science class. He didn't seem like the confident type, but he dressed in just that way. His baby blue skirt ruffled in the gentle wind. Connor tried to avoid eye contact. Not because he was uncomfortable, just highly crushing on this cutie. But Evan looked up from the book he was reading and smiled shyly at Connor. "Hi," he said politely. Connor nodded and was on his way. Holy. Shit. Evan Hansen just said hi to you, and you nodded? Nice going, asshole. Connor sighed and got into his car. Driving home, Evan was on his mind.

"How was practice?" Connor's dad asked as he walked in the door and hung up his briefcase. Connor looked up from his homework. "Good."

Mr. Murphy nodded. "Ready for the game tomorrow?"

"Yep," Connor said. He and his dad weren't the best of friends. But, they tolerated each other. Ever since Connor came out, things had been a little shaky between them. Joining the football team seemed to have ironed things out a little. Connor went upstairs and changed into his pajamas. Laying in bed, he thought about tomorrow. The game. He couldn't let his team down, or his dad. His mom was just happy that he was being active and could care less about the result of the game. And his sister didn't give a shit. The only reason that she came to the game was to hang out with friends. But how embarrassing would it be to mess up in front of his dad? Or worse, Evan?

Connor always got to the venue early and before anyone else. He just liked the serenity of looking out onto the fielding thinking, 'I can do this.' It was peaceful and helped him get into a good mindset before the game. So, there he was, sitting on the bleachers in silence. The was, until he heard footsteps. He whirled around and practically fell off the bleachers when he spotted Evan standing there. "Evan?"

Evan nodded. "Yeah, uh, Connor, right?"

Connor nodded, enthralled with Evan, who was wearing white high waisted shorts and a top with the school logo on it. A camera dangled around his neck. Connor snapped out of it and scooted over on the bleachers. "You wanna, maybe have a seat?"

Evan graciously accepted and sat down next to Connor. "So," he asked, playing with the camera strap. "Why are you here so early?"

"I don't know, I just like to chill here before the game. It's nice, I guess. What about you?"

"Oh, uh, I'm taking pictures for the newspaper. Your...your sister, she's an editor, right? Unless that's a different Murphy-"

Connor nodded. "Yep, that's her."

Evan nodded, not knowing what to say. A crisp breeze tossed leaves around the grass.

This is your chance, Connor thought. He turned to Evan. "Hey, you...you look a little cold, want my jacket?" He started to take off his letterman.
