39: Problems

Karma growled.

"That's none of your business." He spat.

Takahashi smirked, before walking out the room. Karma would have grabbed him, but there was a security camera, so any physical action he took would be documented and Takahashi would likely use that against him. The man was rich- not quite as rich as Karma himself, but very close. Karma was also pretty sure he had some darker connections. Technically Karma did as well, but this was different. Nagisa's work was refined, an art. The people Takahashi would have on his payroll would be petty thieves and violent people, very messy with their work.

Karma shook his head to clear his thoughts. He'd have to contact Nagisa about this, but they would have to tread carefully. Takahashi kept his cards well hidden, so Karma had to do the same.

Karma sat down at his desk and pulled out his phone. Karma send out a text to Nagisa hastily.

"Takahashi-san is trying to figure out where you went after junior high. He's trying to figure out why Takaoka was mad at you. We'll talk more at home-- don't go after him yet. He'll likely have people watching him."

Karma got a short response of "ok" from Nagisa a few minutes later.

Karma let out a breath. He didn't fully know how much Takahashi knew yet, but he would figure it out.

The rest of work went by more-or-less uneventfully, and Karma was just waiting to finish his work and be able to pack up for the day. He was even going to take part of the day off to make sure he got home before Iyuka did so he and Nagisa to talk freely.

Karma finished his last paper for the day and swept all his work haphazardly into his briefcase, grabbing everything and rushing into his car, driving home as fast as he could without breaking any speed limits.

Once he pulled up, Karma rushed inside, going into the library where he expected Nagisa to be reading.

"Nagisa." Karma said, seriously.

"Karma, how much does he know?" Nagisa asked, getting right into the topic.

"Not much, I don't think. He knows Yumi is my aunt and that we were in Kunugigaoka and Takaoka taught there. He knows you were the real target. He also is looking into when you vanished after third year, which is what we need to stop."

Nagisa nodded. "My tracks have been covered well, but it's very possible he will be able to find something or someone who is able to give him enough information to make a guess."

"Yeah, and we can't let that happen. I'd say to take him out now, but he has people who will continue looking for him if he's killed. Plus, him suddenly dying when he starts looking into someone related to me will put suspicion on the both of us." Karma briefed.

Nagisa swore under his breath.

"What's the plan?"

"Dig up dirt on him instead. If we can get enough blackmail we can probably force him to back down." Karma planned.

"Alright. I'll do some recon and see what I can get."

"Alright, just stay safe, and don't get caught." Karma said as he softly kissed Nagisa's head. "I can pick Iyuka up from school if you want."

Nagisa nodded. "I'm going to start doing some research so I can go in as soon as possible."

"Alright."

Nagisa vanished into his special room where he kept his assassination tools, and Karma sighed. He'd been on edge all day.

Someone working o hurt him, he could handle, but he had fought for years to bring Nagisa home to him. Karma would rather not think about the time Nagisa was gone. No matter what Nagisa had told him, Karma still felt as though Nagisa's leaving had been his fault, and that if he had done something different, Nagisa would have stayed.

Though, Nagisa was very skilled now. Being the husband of the best assassin in the world did have perks. Had Nagisa been anyone else, it was unlikely he would be able to deal with Takahashi with as much ease.

Karma shook his head and checked the clock. He had about ten minutes before he had to go get Iyuka. Maybe he should schedule some time to just be close with Nagisa. With all this worry he could use a night off to just be with his husband.
