Chapter Sixteen

Camila's POV

I can't believe I kissed Lauren, she was my first kiss and she rejected me.

Weakly leaning against Shadow, I close my eyes.

Shadow shook out her mane and blew some air out through her nostrils.

I don't know why, but I was beginning to feel really weak as my body starts to slide off of Shadow and I could barely hold onto the reins.

I landed on the ground with a thump and groaned. Shadow stopped beside me, lying down.

Curling into her, I swallow thickly. It was cold out and she was warm. "Get help." I breathe out.

Shadow snorted, shaking out her mane.

"Shadow, get Lauren." I breathe out before beginning to cough, blood escaping my lips.

Shadow turned to me. She heaved to her feet and turned, galloping off in the direction we came in.

I watched her go, struggling to keep my eyes open.

Lauren's POV

I was standing with Dinah, Ally, and Normani when a wild winnie caught my attention.

"Is that Shadow?" Dinah asked, looking in the direction of the black horse, throwing her head around.

Frowning, I look in the same direction. "Shadow!" I call out.

The horse rushes over, nudging my shoulder and turning in a circle.

"She's crazy." Normani said.

The black horse winnies once more and leans down slightly, almost as if signaling for me to get on her back.

I looked at Dinah and Normani before getting up on Shadow.

The other three girls quickly climb onto their own horses and before I knew it we were off.

"Where's she taking us?" Dinah asked.

"I have no idea." I respond, frowning as we move into the trees.

Shadow picked up speed. She was faster and bigger than Dixon. It felt strange.

It wasn't long before we were stopping, and I can't help but gasp as soon as I see Camila.

"What happened?" Dinah asked, hopping down off her horse.

Getting off of Shadow, I move quickly and drop down beside an unconscious Camila.

"Lauren, what happened?" Dinah asks again.

"How should I know?" I asked.

"You were with her last." Dinah responds with a frown.

"I spoke to her and she kissed me before running off." I told her.

Dinah's eyes widen. "She gave you her first kiss?" She asks.

"Her first kiss." I repeated. "She took my first kiss." I mumbled.

"Guys, we should probably call Miss Granger and 999." Normani calls out.

Ally nodded.

Taking a deep breath, I run a hand through my hair. "I didn't bring my phone."

"Me either." Normani said.

"I always have mine." Dinah responds pulling out her phone.

"Call the emergency services." Ally said.

Nodding, Dinah calls for an ambulance.

Ally and I moved Camila into the recovery position.

Camila's POV

I woke up to a strange beeping sound and bright lights. It was giving me a migraine.

"Camila, are you okay?" I heard Miss Granger's voice.

Swallowing thickly, I look toward her. "Can I have some water?"

"Sure." She nodded.

Sitting up slowly, I take the cup she offers me and take a long sip.

"How do you feel?" The teacher asked.

"My side hurts. Last thing I remember is falling off Shadow." I respond.

"Why did you go all the way out there?" Miss Granger asked.

Biting my lip, I hand her back the cup and lay back. "I was upset and just started riding." I mumble.

"Lauren said you hurt your side when you fell off of Maya but didn't tell anyone, why?" The blonde teacher asked.

"I didn't think anyone would care." I mumble quietly.

"Camila, I'm your teacher. Of course I care." Miss Granger said.

"I'm tired." I mumble, not looking at her.

"I know. Your parents have been notified and unfortunately, you can't go to the dance tonight." Miss Granger said.

I don't respond, I didn't even want to go to the dance anyways.

Miss Granger put the cup down and sat down beside the bed.

Closing my eyes, I turn my head away from her.

The room was silent except for the beeping.

I must've fallen asleep because the next time I wake up, Lauren is sitting in the chair beside me.

She was staring down at her hands and humming quietly to herself.

"What song is that?" I ask softly.

"Hmm?" Lauren lifted her head. "What?"

"The song you're humming, what is it?" I ask again.

"Um... Just Give Me A Reason by Pink." Lauren said.

Nodding, I take a deep breath. "Sounds good."

"It's my favorite song." Lauren shrugged.

"I like it." I respond softly.

Lauren offered me a small smile.

Shifting slightly, I look at her. "I'm sorry I kissed you."

Lauren swallowed. "Why did you do it?"

"I wanted my first kiss to be you." I respond softly.

"Oh." Lauren looked back down at her hands. "I hadn't kissed anyone."

"I'm sorry." I whisper, feeling horrible. "I mean we barely even kissed if that makes you feel better so you don't have to count it."

Lauren chewed on her bottom lip, remaining quiet.

Closing my eyes, I lift my hands and cover my face.

The room was silent.

I can't stop the gasp that escapes my lips when a pair of soft and warm lips envelope mine.

My heart stopped when they pulled away.

"I wanted to count it." Lauren whispered before moving back to her chair and sitting down. She pulled a book out of her backpack that was sitting on the floor and began reading it.

Miss Granger came back into the room. "I brought some food."

Biting my lip, I try to force myself not to become hopeful. If she wants to count it, does that mean she might feel the same?

"I wasn't sure what you liked to eat." Miss Granger put a tray of food on the bottom of the bed.

"Did you get pizza?" I ask excitedly.

"Yeah." Miss Granger handed me the plate with two slices of cheese pizza on it.

Taking the plate, I sit up and quickly begin eating.

"Lauren?" Miss Granger turned to the green-eyed girl.

Lauren looks up and smiles. "Yeah?"

"What would you like to eat?" The young blonde teacher asked.

Shrugging, Lauren reaches forward and grabs a sandwich.

Miss Granger smiled at her before picking up something for herself and sitting down.
