her words

She had her words
wandering around inside of her body,
happily alone in a mist of tangled webs.
But you forced every single syllable out,
ripping them from her heart
when you said that you were leaving.

She tried everything.

She took every letter and extracted them
from where they floated peacefully,
and gave them to you.

And all you did
was take her words
and eat them up.
Then you left,
just as you said you would,
leaving her with nothing to chew on,
nothing to ponder upon,
nothing to toss around in her head
except the new words
that she's creating now.

But the ones she has this time
are painful
and grieving,

because those are the only ones
her heart and brain
will produce anymore.
