Parents Get Suspicious

I opened my eyes to find myself lying next to Drew who was still asleep. The sun shined brightly through the window and I wanted to stay in this moment forever. I looked over at Drew and kissed his forehead. He moved around a bit on the bed and turned his head. His eyes flew open and he looked at me. "When did you get in here?" he asked sleepily. I smiled at him.

"I couldn't sleep." I confessed sitting up on the bed. He leaned up to kiss me.

"You're even pretty when you've just woke up." he says sweetly. And then like that, the moment is over. And not because either of us ruined it, but because we heard voices. And not just any voices, my parents voices.
"Shhh!" I say listening closely. It was muffled but I can still make out what they're saying.

"Where the hell is Sky?" my dad was asking.
"She should be in her room honey..." my mom replied.
"Well she isn't, I just checked. I don't know what's been up with her lately. She leaves without telling us, never answers her cellphone, and she doesn't even hang out with her friends anymore."
"Don't be like that with her; I'm sure she didn't go anywhere too far from here. We have to learn to trust her.... Let's just ask Drew if he knows where she is. I doubt she'd leave without telling anyone. It's so unlike her."

And then the talking seizes and I know they're headed for the door. Thinking quickly, I hop out of the bed and grab my shoes. "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!" I whisper quietly. "I gotta go Drew; they can't know I was in here with you." I say to him. I open the window that let in all the good sunlight that I'd woke up to only minutes ago and I found myself climbing out of it and onto the ledge outside our house. I close the curtains behind myself and hold my breath as I hear a knock on his bedroom door. "Drew it's us," my mom says and I listen as he opens the door.
"Have you seen Sky?" she wants to know. Even though my dad doesn't say anything, I know he's there.

"No, I haven't seen her all morning but she sent me a text saying she'd be over some chick named Jensen's house. Something about a girl emergency." Drew lies. I smile to myself about how good of a liar he was.
"Oh well, I guess its fine then, we can just call her to see if she's okay." My mom finally says. I wait until I hear the door close before I finally climb back through the window.
I let out a huge sigh of relief. "That was close." I say quietly. Drew looks at me thoughtfully.
"Where's your phone?" he says as if had a sudden epiphany.
"In my room. Why?"
"Your mom's gonna call it!"
"Oh..." is all I can say.
"I'll go get it. Just stay here." he says.

And so I wait. He returns with my phone and I grab it. Seconds later it rings. "Hello?" I say into the phone. "Sky?! Where the hell are you?" my dad wants to know.
"I'm over Jensen's house."
"That's what Drew told your mom but I think you're lying. Something's up with you Sky. Do you have a boyfriend we should know about or something? Are you on drugs? This is so unlike you!"
"Dad, I really am over Jensen's house!" I lie.
"Well I'm coming to pick you up. You used to go over Jensen's house when you were in the 8th grade. I remember where she lives." And then he hung up. I just sat there unsure of what to do. "What'd he say?" Drew asks concerned. I don't say anything.
"Sky!" Drew says.
"He's going to Jensen's house to pick me up! What am I gonna do?"
"You're gonna have to go over her house."
"She lives like 5 blocks from here!"
"Ok then, I guess your dad is just gonna find out you lied to him..."
"I guess he is! What the hell am I supposed to do? Run to her house?"
"You could try..."
"Or I could just tell my dad about us..."
"No. We're not doing that. Not now anyway. Imagine what he'd say. Imagine what Joseph would say!"
I know he's right but I still don't think I can make it. "Ok, I'll go." I finally say.
"You still have time. It'll take your dad like 10 minutes to put clothes on. Just go!" I take deep breath telling myself I can do it. I kiss Drew on the lips and he puts his arms around my waist. With his hands he turns me around smiling and pushes me towards the window. "We'll have time for that later. GO!" And I climb out the window feeling the heat and sunlight hit me for the second time.

I hold on to the window ledge and jump over to the tree that we used to climb when we were little. I hopped off luckily not hurting myself and began running down the street. I pull out my phone and dialed Jensen's number. "Hello?" she says.
"Hey, it's Sky. Is it ok if I come over your house?"
"Sure. Is something wrong?"
"No, why would you think that?"
"No reason. You're just breathing hard."
"Oh. Well I'll be over soon." I say before hanging up and turning down the next street.
