Mandi
“Please don’t make me go to school today,” I begged my mom the next
morning. “Come on, it’s my birthday.”
“I know that it’s your birthday, but you have already missed so many
school days this year,” my mom told me. “Now, please get up and get
ready.”
“Fine,” I grumbled. I got up and put on yoga pants, a tank top, and a
jacket.
“Aren’t you forgetting something,” my mom asked me.
“What am I forgetting,” I griped.
“You might want to consider putting shoes on,” she answered.
“Gosh, I am so done with this whole pregnancy thing,” I screamed standing
up to get my shoes.
“Sit back down,” my mom told me, “I’ll go get your shoes for you.”
“My light blue converse shoes, please,” I asked.
“Here you go,” she said when she returned to the kitchen from my room.
“Thanks,” I told her. I took my shoes from her and put them on. “Today is
gonna be a horrible day, I can already tell.”
“Why do you think that,” she asked sitting down across the table from me
with her coffee.
“I don’t just think that, I know that,” I answered. “The whole school’s
talking and I might get kicked out of school for being pregnant.”
“No, you won’t get kicked out of school for being pregnant since it was
nowhere in the student regulations handout,” she informed me.
“You meant that you actually read that thing,” I asked incredulously.
“What do you mean? Of course I read the student regulations handout,” she
said.
“Mom, nobody reads those types of handouts,” I informed her.
“Well, somebody obviously did read it,” she pointed out.
“That somebody was you,” I laughed.
“All right, it is time for you to get to school,” she told me as she stood up. “Is
Dillon coming to get you?”
“Yeah, I guess,” I sighed. “I don’t feel good, are you sure that I can’t stay
home?”
“You’re going to school,” she said sternly. “If you throw up you can come
home, but only then.”
“Fine, be that way,” I glared at her.
“Sorry,” she shrugged.
“Dillon’s here,” I said standing up. “I’ll see ya after school, bye.”
“Have fun,” she called.
