Sadie

It was Monday.
I drove to school with my mom and Noah.
I tuck my knees under my chin in the backseat of the car while mom and Noah talk about Thanksgiving.
I guess that is coming up pretty soon.

"Sadie, what do you think we should have this year?
Ham or turkey?"
Mother inquired.
I shut my eyes and take a breath.
"I can't eat either of them."
I spoke.

The car fell silent, but I could hear my mom's thoughts in my own head.
'What the hell is her problem?'
'Why does she always do this to me?'
'She's never satisfied with anything I do.'

The car comes to a stop and I open my eyes.
I grab my backpack and rush out of the car.
Noah walks beside me as I hear mom drive off.
Everyone outside was looking at me and whispering.
They must have heard about what happened.
"Sadie Sink!"
I hear Millie scream from across campus.
I look up and see her with Caleb and Gaten over by a tree.

Noah and I walk closer to her and I notice how disgusted she looks at me.
"Mills-"
"I heard about your brothers party.
You really are some disgusting slut, aren't you?"
She spat out as she crossed her arms over her chest.

I pinch my eyebrows at her words.
"W-what?
Look I was just-"
"You were just what?
A desperate skank?
Oh, I'm aware of it.
We all know that you banged Nic Hamilton in your brother's bed."

She doesn't understand the situation at all.
"Millie, I did it to save Finn and his friends.
If I hadn't done something, then they would be victims of Nic's horrific crime."
I confess.
Millie looked taken back by what I said as she scoffed.
"So you had sex Nic Hamilton to save those freaks?
Bullshit Sadie.
And even if that was true, then what has that lesbo Sabrina or whatever turned you into?"

I was angry now.
I'll let everyone talk shit about me all they want, but when they say something about my friends, now that's another thing.
"You better watch what you say about Sophia."
I warn her trying to resist the urge to punch her right in the nose.
Millie hums.

"You like her, don't you?"
She asks me as she cocks an eyebrow.
Of course I like Sophia, as a friend.
Or possibly more than a friend.
I've been very confused about my feelings towards her lately.
I'm not gay, at all.

"Not in a romantic way.
She's just my friend and if you have a problem, then I need you to get the hell out of my face before I kick your ass."
Millie chuckles and walks off.
I look up at Caleb and Gaten.
Caleb looked hurt as he just gazed at me with such confusion.
"Caleb I-"
"Save it.
Forget about me asking you to be my girlfriend, I forgot you're somebody else's property."

With that, he walks off with Gaten.
I felt like crying, but I knew I had to stay strong in front of all these people.
The school bell rang and everybody went inside.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and turn to see Noah.
"Did you really do that with Hamilton?"
He asked.
I nod with tears in my eyes.

Noah brings me into a hug and I let out a sob.
My friends hate me, this whole school hates me.
It was all for a good cause, to save the outcasts.

"Sadie?"
A soft voice spoke as I heard footsteps coming close.
I stood up straight and Noah backed away from me and walked off to get to class.
I look up and see those seven people that I've helped.
They all looked so sorry for me and sad.
"We heard everything.
Many people may not know and appreciate what you've done, but we do and that's all that matters."
Jaeden Liberher said.

I flash a smile at them and look down at the ground.
"I don't care what people say about me, I care about what everyone says about you guys.
I just want you all to know that I love all of you and I want you guys to be safe and happy."
I wipe away my tears before looking up at them all.

They huddle towards me with their arms out and engulf me in a big group hug.
I felt genuinely happy.
"Thank you so much Sadie.
You're our hero."
Jeremy thanks me.
I smile before everyone backed away.

They all rushed off to class together, except one.
She gave me another hug and I hug her back, squeezing her small waist.
She giggles as she released from the hug.
"I wanna help you.
I wanna make you happy and I wanna be right by your side no matter what happens to you."
Sophia admits.

I blush at her words and look away.
I would like her to make me happy, but it's simply impossible.
"Thank you Sophia."
I said softly.
She grabs my hand and we walk to class together.

Her hand didn't feel clammy like usual.
It was my hand that was sweaty now.
Sophia's hand was just so soft and delicate.
She makes me feel like I'm walking on air all of the time.
Uh oh, do I like Sophia?
