Talk To Me

Sadie

It was late at night.
I lie on my side in my bed fast asleep, dreaming about whatever came to my mind.
In my sleep, I feel my bed move and something wrap around my waist tightly.

I shot my eyes open in panic as my heart raced.
"Didn't mean to wake you, princess."
Lonnie Schnapp whispers in my ear from behind me before kissing the top of my head.

So disgusting, I think to myself.
The grown man sighs and slowly pulls the covers off of my body revealing my silk pink nightgown that rode up my thighs.
Tears come to my eyes and my stomach churns.

"Oh Sadie,"
Lonnie chuckles quietly in that menacing voice of his.
His chapped lips brush against my earlobes while his hand rubs around my inner thigh.

"It's almost like you're asking for it."
His hand reaches the top of my underwear and his rough fingers slip in.
I tense up as a tear rolls down my cheek.

-

I trudge down the stairs gloomily.
My hair still damp from my morning shower. It's Saturday and I have absolutely nothing to do.
I step off the stairs and into the kitchen to be greeted by my mom and Noah.
Mom noticed my presence and grinned.

"Mornin' sugar.
How'd you sleep last night?"
She asks mixing eggs in a pan.
I mentally cringe at the eggs and the memories of last night.
Both are disgusting.

I don't answer my mother, I just shrug and shuffle towards the barstool at the counter.

I sat next to Noah who was eating his pancake pretty quickly.
Sometimes he needs to just slow down.
He stops to glance up at me and smile with syrup running down his chin.
I just look away emotionless.
"Man, these are good pancakes, Susan."
The young boy moans shoving more food into his mouth.

The red haired woman thanks him and placed a plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes in front of me.
I never eat what my mom makes because it's never vegan.
She gets a little offended sometimes, I don't care.
I love animals too much.

I hear footsteps coming down the stairs. Lonnie enters the kitchen with a toothy grin as he approaches my mother and wraps his arms around her waist casing the woman to giggle.
I fidget with the sleeves of my sweatshirt.

I don't really like my family.
The only three I really care about are Noah, my father, and Jake.
They may not know about my situation with my step dad, but at least they're somewhat kind towards me.

"Sadie, why aren't you eating your breakfast?"
Susan Sink asks.
I don't look up or answer her.
The kitchen falls silent, which makes me very uncomfortable.

I finally look up at the two across from me and sigh in annoyance.
"I've told you this many times before.
I'm a vegan.
I do not eat meat.
I do not eat eggs.
I do not eat anything that comes from animals."
I explain plainly.

Mom looks upset.
She groans in frustration before stomping up the the stairs.
I hear her bedroom door slam causing me to jump in my seat a little.

I avoid Lonnie's eyes on me.
Thankfully Noah is sitting right next to me. His dad would never do anything to me with anyone around.
I really do try to get away from him and to not be alone in the same room as him.
That's a bit difficult at times.
