I walk through the park at noon. I try to clear my head, but it's not working. Everything's so confusing!
I jump as a hand touches my shoulder. I look back to see Shane. "Dammit, you almost gave me a heart attack."
He chuckles. "That's my purpose in life."
I walk forward. "Why are you here?"
"I want to talk to you."
"Go on," I say.
"Not just about you, but..... But about us!"
I stop in my tracks. "What?"
"Listen, what I said the other day--"
"I-I understand. You don't want to date me. Look, I get it, so can you just---"
He cuts me off with a kiss. "Scar, I love you. I want to give us a chance, but---"
"But what?!"
"Ughh, I don't know. Part of me says, 'go for it.' The other part says, 'red alert: she's dangerous.'"
"Gee, some words of encouragement," I say as I walk off.
He forces me back by the arm. I wince in pain. "Scar," he starts.
"No!" I say, running away.
I run into the woods, which is probably illegal. I stop behind a tree and grasp my arm. A rush of pain flooded my body. I think my arm might have been dislocated. As I lean against the tree, I hear a voice.
"Scarlett, is that you?"
"Who's there?" I gasp.
"Just an old friend. An old friend who knows your secret."
"What secret? I don't have any secret." I say quickly.
"Can it, Scarlett, or should I say, The Red Spirit."
"T-That's not true. It's a lie!"
The voice chuckles. "You're easier to read than a childrens' book."
"C-C-Come out," I stutter.
I gasp as a shadowy figure appears in front of me. "No," I whisper.
