Chapter Twenty Six

"Please, DJ?" She pleaded over the phone. "Sige na... please?"

"Kath, may meeting nga ako mamaya." I repeated.

"Mas mahalaga pa ba yang meeting mo kesa sa akin?" She asked. I sighed and shook my head, as if she could see me. "If not, then please please please please come with me. Minsan lang naman eh."

I sighed again. "Fine."

"Yay!" She cheered on the phone. "Thanks DJ, you're the best! Mwa!"

"You know that I'd do anything for you, right?"

"Mmhmm," she hummed. "Thanks again, DJ. See you!"

"Okay. Bye, stay safe! I lo- bye!" I ended the call before I can say those words that I've always wanted to tell her.

"Aissa!" I called out and she peaked her head at my door. "Cancel my lunch meeting."

She frowned and came inside my office. "Sir, di pwed-"

"I said cancel my lunch meeting." I repeated.

"Sir, kasi last month pang nakaschedule yun. Pumunta pa sila dito sa Pilipinas para maka-"

"Aissa." I breathed out. "Did you not hear what I just said?"

"Si-"

"Cancel that damn meeting." I stated firmly. "Do I make myself clear?"

Aissa gulped and nodded then quickly went out of my office

Alam kong mahalag yung meeting na yun. After all, doon nakasalalay ang paglalaunch ng bagong establishment sa Los Angeles. Pero Kath needs me. Lagi kong dapat unahin si Kath.

What could go wrong?

Wala naman siguro, diba?

"Sorry, DJ ha? Just wait for a few more minutes and I will be there." She spoke through the phone.

"Kath, I've been waiting here for half an hour. Bakit ba ang tagal mo?" I answered as I looked at my wrist watch. "Nasaan ka na ba?"

"I, uhm, I'm at the shop. Final touches for the furnitures tsaka andito yung mga nag-aapply eh. Pero uhm, aalis na ako." She answered. "Don't worry. I'll be there before you know it."

"Pwede ba akong pumunta dyan?" I asked. "Maybe I can help, I'm a little bored here."

"No," she answered, almost too quickly, "uhm, hindi pwede."

"Huh?"

"I mean, no, it's okay. It won't be long naman eh." She said. "It's really okay, DJ. Hintayin mo na lang ako dyan."

"Eh di sana sinabi mo na may ginagawa ka para hindi muna ako pumunta dito." I mumbled. "Fine, mag-iingat ka."

I was about to end the call but she spoke up. "Are you mad at me?"

"No," I answered quickly, "I can never be mad at you."

"Mahihintay mo ba ako, DJ?" She asked.

Something inside me is telling me that her words have so much deeper meaning. It's, like, she's asking me if I could wait for her. Not for her to come here; maybe she's asking if I could wait till she's ready to open her heart again.

"Of course," I breather out. "Yes. Yes, Kath. I'll wait for you."

"Good," she answered, "for a second, I thought a stupid meeting is more important to you than me."
