Harry threw himself out of his bed in the middle of the night as soon as he heard his little girl weeping in the room next door, not even attempting to be quiet and careful because of his wife who was peacefully sleeping in that moment. When it came to his daughter Mila, Harry miraculously had a very good hearing if you consider the heavy sleeper that he normally was. Not even a tiny little sound could wake him up eventually. Even if the world was going down, Harry wouldn't probably notice it at all. So he was very grateful that a part of his brain was attentive and didn't shut down when his daughter needed him at night.

He raced immediately to her bedroom, slamming the door open and switching the lights on and what he found in there was heart-wrenching for him. His five-year old sat on her bed, her little hands rubbing her eyes constantly while tears ran down her chubby cheeks. Hearing the desperate cries of help escaping the little one's throat, made Harry wanting to cry as well. He hated seeing Mila suffering from whatever had tormented her tonight. In the last couple of weeks, she regularly tore her parents from their sleep because she was plagued by nightmares.

"Mila?" He spoke.

"Daddy!" The little one sobbed, once she saw her eyes fell on her father and welcomed him with outstretched arms, letting him know that she wanted to be picked up. Harry rushed to her and his arms engulfed her tiny frame, pressing her against his chest. One arm steadied her tightly, making sure she was safe while his other hand ran through her curly and messy hair. Mila buried her face in the crook of his neck as her sobs increased. Her little hands dug themselves in his t-shirt as if her life was dependent on him.

"Pshh, little one. It's okay!" Harry soothed her as he rocked her back and forth. "Daddy is here. You're safe, baby."

He felt her whole body shaking terribly. Worry overtook his mind and Harry wondered what she was so frightened about and what made her feel so afraid. There were a few occasions like this already but none of them had ever been so drastic. Humming her favourite lullaby, he walked a few rounds in the room until Mila's crying deceased.

"Sweet creature/ Sweat creature/ Where ever I go/ You bring me home/"

Mila slowly stopped her heavy crying. Only a few hiccups left her lips by now.

Harry took a seat on her bed, his daughter placed on his lap as he softly caressed her cheeks and caught the last tears leaving her eyes with his thumbs. Her face was covered with sweaty and sticky strands of hair so Harry pushed them aside to have a better view on her beautiful face. She really looked like her mother.

"Hey, bub. What happened?" Harry asked her gently. Mila hesitated to talk first but after a couple of seconds she opened up to him.

"Monster..." was all she responded.

"A monster? What did it do? Did the monster hurt you?"

Mila shook her head. "No daddy."

"What did the monster do then?"
A new load of tears were brimming her eyes.

"No crying, love, please." He said, rubbing up and down her back.

"The monster killed you and mummy, daddy. I wanted to help b-but I couldn't a-and then he was looking to me a-and he was so scary, daddy. I was so afraid, because you weren't there to protect me and the monster wanted to kill me too. He came towards me and all I could was screaming but he wouldn't go. He grabbed me a- and-"

Harry placed a kiss on her forehead in case it would give her relaxation.

"Listen to me, baby. " He spoke firmly, "Mummy and I are absolutely fine. We're not dead and there is no way we would ever leave you on your own. I'll keep you safe as much as I can and beat all the monsters that bother you, okay? We love you so much, Mila. And we will always be there. We're here."

Harry questioned himself what probably affected her so much that her subconscious had created such horrible images. But for now he let the topic die down, he didn't want to cause her any more stress.

"What's going on?" He saw his wife leaning against the doorframe, still in her sleepy state and a little bit drowsy but you could see a hint of worry on her face. "Did something happen?"

When Mila also noticed her mother's presence and realized she was absolutely fine and that the 'monster' did not really kill her parents, she fully relaxed in Harry's arms.

"Nothing, love. Our little one just had a bad dream again. But we've sorted it out, right?"

Mila shook her head in agreement. "Mommy, daddy, can I sleep with you in your bed?" After her dream, she wouldn't dare to sleep on her own.

Harry's features softened at her request. "Of course, princess."

So when they were back at their room, Harry tugged his little baby in between himself and his wife, covering up everybody tightly so no one was getting cold.

Running his fingers through her hair for the last time, he reassured her that everything was going to be fine. "We're here love, we'll never let you down."

"I love you daddy." His daughter responded.

"I love you, too, my angel."

Listening to their soft snores and heartbeats, all of them were lulling into sleep.
