Joohyun wanted to smack his head, he was trying so hard to make everything seemed normal to both of them when they were very aware that their relationship was fragile.
They walked silently in the dark and lonely night. None of them spoke a word. At some point, she could feel raindrops on her. Joohyun was careful to slow down her steps as Jisung at the back was limping. She wanted to grab on him so she could support him to walk but her ego was filling her at the moment.
She would try to sneak glances to make sure she was alright the whole time they were walking. Jisung however, didn't notice this at all as he was busy dragging his other leg to walk faster. Of course it was painful as he had never been stabbed before.
Instead of heading to her parents' house, Joohyun found herself stopping in front of their apartment instead. As the door unlocked, Joohyun was about to enter when she noticed that Jisung was about to head to the other side. He was leaving. Instantly, her body reacted before her mind could. She grabbed on Jisung's hand.
"D-don't. It's your house anyway."
She said softly, almost pleading. They stayed frozen for a few seconds before Joohyun released her hold on his hand and proceeded walking inside. Surprisingly, Jisung tailed behind her. She rushed to the kitchen and grabbed on the first aid kit. Joohyun found him seated on the couch in the living room as she approached him.
Again, both of them stayed quiet as Joohyun properly treat his wound. The silent was quite painful to bear as the two of them always had so much to talk about. She didn't know how to express her emotions. True, she was angry at him. She had always hated it when anyone lied to her. What was more impossible for her to take was the fact, she didn't even know what was his real intentions of approaching her.
Although Hyunjin was the real killer but Jisung was still guilty as he was the one who triggered it. As she wrapped a fresh bandage around his thigh, she tried her best to ignore his winces. After she was done, Joohyun started packing everything back into the first aid kit but stopped when she felt a touch on her neck.
"You're injured." He said softly. He pressed his palm on her neck. She shut her eyes closed, trying to get his expression out of her head. She didn't want his pity at the moment. However, she wasn't cruel. Instead, Joohyun pushed his hand away lightly and touch the open wound Hyunjin gave her. "I'll treat it later, you should rest." She said and excused herself quickly.
After Joohyun was done changing, she glanced outside only to find it was pouring. Only then, before her eyes she saw white light flashing with a loud roar afterwards. As a reflex, her body started to shiver. She blinked her eyes a few times and looked at the digital clock. The time displayed was 5:50 AM.
She lied on the bed, trying to have some eye shut but the loud thunder would scare her every time. At this moment, she hated herself for being so fearful of something that could barely reach her. She stared at the ceiling a few times, hoping it would help her sleep but it didn't.
Grabbing a pillow, she walked out of her room. She peeked at the couch downstairs and found Jisung's lying figure. She felt a little more secure that she wasn't alone in the house. Silently, she made her way towards him. Joohyun threw her pillow on the floor next to the couch. At thunderstorms like this, she can't be alone. She used to cry a lot when she was a kid.
Just as she was about to lie down, another thunder roared and immediately her breathing hitched. To her surprise, it woke him up. He opened his eyes and instantly softened at the sight of her frightened.
"Can't sleep?" He asked. Joohyun's eyes were everywhere but on him. By now, she was embarrassed of standing in front of him. A few moments ago she was acting so strong to lash her anger out on him. But now, she was just a fearful child. Jisung moved a little, making out some space to fit Joohyun on the couch as well.
She wanted to reject but the bright lightning and loud thunder wasn't helping. In the end, she squished herself next to Jisung. Leaving her anger behind, she wrapped her arms around him and buried her face in his chest. Slowly, the loud booming from the sky quiets down, her heartbeat was coming to a steady pace.
Jisung rested his chin on top of her head, his arms secured around her like he would always do every time she tried to calm herself when it was raining. "Can we leave this place?" Joohyun asked softly, she didn't need to look at Jisung, just staying in his embrace was enough for her to know he was still awake.
"If that's what you want." He said. His hand softly stroking her hair. Even after everything he did, Joohyun still refused to leave him. This, got him touched. Picking her as his soulmate was never a mistake, even if Joohyun were to leave him, he had no regrets. He would love her still, always.
"I'm so sorry, I should've been honest with you." Jisung said softly, his head leaned against the top of her head. Unfortunately, he never thought meeting her was a mistake, she was a blessing to him and that, he would keep in mind forever. "If only I was careful, your bother would still be al—"
"He's happy now, I'm sure." Joohyun cut him off, almost tearing up as she recalled his younger sibling. "You are the most precious person to me, I can't believe you stayed even after what I did to you." He paused, although he was unable to see her face, but holding her was enough. "I don't deserve you Joohyun."
"I hate you." Joohyun muttered, she started to feel drowsy. Sleep was coming for her and she needed it the most now. Jisung chuckled, he knew well what it meant. Softly, he kissed the top of her head and hugged her tighter. He cherished her a lot and this time he wasn't going to repeat the same mistakes again. He promised not to hurt her ever.
"I know."
