As we all have the ability to make a sound
Voices that channel our thoughts aloud
Figure of speech that is able to draw a crowd
As the words mean something that is quite profound
*
Names have been etched onto our history
For example Martin Luther King and his advisory
These sounds and words that were once a mystery -
Were what helped fellow humans out of slavery
*
But sometimes we abuse this powerful privilege
Words of pure hatred that causes great damage
A senseless thought? An opinionated act of courage?
Or a vile nonsensical attack on self-image?
*
That’s right, I’m talking about verbal abuse
Connotations and words that are blatantly misused
We can never escape it due to a growing issue…
Technology, where face-less trolls vent about their views
*
Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop behind the screen
Real-life verbal fights are not also squeaky clean
Words that were once mighty and reigned supreme
Just no longer means the same to me….
