We.

An unintentional oath we took

From the day that we first met

To always stick by each other

Until our very last breath

Scarring each other with memories

Both the good and the bad

We still kept by our promise

And gave it everything we had

We strived to make it work

Even when others shot us down

Hopeless we were, lost and trembling

We were royals without our crown

Two young-lovers embodied as one

Struggling to find our way

We were destined to be together

And for that chance, I did pray

Answers did arise quite soon

Courage and strength did we summon

To run away from this unaccepting world

To turn sweet this sour lemon

We emptied our love one night

The bold stars our only witnesses

The gift had finally been unwrapped

Along with passionately shared kisses

We knew this was the moment

That cemented our fate

Not even our family could tears us apart

For we shared something undeniably great

We spoke to each other warmly

Not an utter of harsh or bitter words

Comfort we found in each other

And a feeling as free as the birds

Our parents did discover us once

Many years later after our defiance

We were still quite young but happy

And parents still didn’t agree of our compliance

They tried to break us, shame us

Turn us against each other

They even involved the police at one stage

An idea of my mother…

We still somehow made it through

Scratched but still alive and together

Two children did we also produce -

For little Stella had wanted a brother

We then drowned each other in time

Growing old side by side

Proud grandparents we became

And lived a life that was sublime

I never regretted anything we did

In fact, I’m glad it turned out this way

I write to you from the heavens

To let you know that I miss you every day.

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed writing this poem. Possibly the longest one I have written - but also the most fulfilling. This is what life is about - this is what I want to achieve someday...
