MADDIE:
"no!" i cried. "no, i have to say goodbye, Tiff, go back!"

Tiff glanced at me. "baby, if only i could. we're already seven minutes later than anticipated. i'm sorry."

tears started to fill my eyes and i soon cried myself to sleep.

GRAYSON:
"Gray! Gray! wake up, now!" Ethan was hitting me with pillows, trying to keep his balance.

"what? what time is it?"
i mumbled, glancing over at my clock. i shot up from the bed.

"it's already 10?! E, why didn't you wake me?!"
i screamed. my plan was to wake up at 9 and surprise Maddie by meeting her at the airport.

"i tried to!" Ethan said in defense.

"i have to take a shower! shit!" i quickly ran to the bathroom, undressed and hopped into the shower.

only a few minutes later, i hopped out, dried off, and got dressed once more.

i brushed my teeth and dried my hair. it was 10:12.

"come on!" i told Ethan. "let's go!"

she was flight 304 to Michigan and it leaves at 10:42.

i was already in the drivers seat of my car while Ethan was limping to it, stuffing his crutches in the backseat.

as soon as he was in, i sped off. i was wearing sweatpants, a hoodie, vans, and sunglasses. Ethan wore his almost identical. we had to keep ourselves hidden.

the plan was that since Ethan got to have a proper goodbye yesterday, he would stay in the car while i rushed off to find Maddie. plus, Ethan can't run. thanks to me...

—at the airport—

i pulled into a parking spot. it was 10:38. shit.

"keep yourself hidden."
i ordered Ethan.

he nodded and grabbed my arm before i shut the door.

"what?" i snapped.

"good luck...and tell her i'll miss her, aight?"

i nodded. "thanks, bro."

i closed the door and looked around.

i pulled my hood over my head and the sunglasses on my face.

it was a huge place. "God, please say this won't take long." i prayed.

i looked above for signs and found one big one. i looked until i found what i needed. Flight 304–Michigan: 10:42 a.m.

i looked for the numbers and found a big sign.

it read: 304

i rushed through the crowd, and was almost there when the wind blew my hood off. crap!

i pulled it over my head but it was too late.

too many voices already.

"ITS GRAYSON DOLAN!"

"OMG! LOOK!"

"GRAYSON, CAN I GET YOUR AUTOGRAPH?!"

people started to surround me.

"guys, please!" i shouted.
"i promise you i will do everything in a minute but
i really have to get to someone!" i shouted.

i looked at my watch.
10:40.

the people understood and let me have my way.

i ran towards the sign and finally came across it. there was a line. i had to find her.

i looked at my watch once more. 10:41.

i scanned through the line. "shit, what is she wearing?!" i whisper-shouted.

that's when i spotted a young girl, probably 17. she was wearing a grey crop top and a backpack. one, Maddie loves crop tops and two, Maddie has that backpack.

"MADDIE!" i screamed.

she looked around but didn't spot me.

the clock on my watch now read 10:42. no. no no.

"FLIGHT 304 TO MICHIGAN, BOARD PLANE NOW."

"MADISON!" i screamed, rushing through the crowds.

she was now boarding the plane. i was on the verge of tears.

"Maddie, please!" i was going crazy.

she turned around—but still walking—as she finally saw me.

her eyes widened and she quickly disappeared.

i was too late.
