Payton's P.O.V

"Wha...what do you mean you don't believe me" I mumble, he shrugs.

"I just don't believe you. I may not have known you for a while but I know that you start to stutter when you get nervous" he cocks his head to the side. I go to say something but decide against it, making him smirk

"I also know that you don't get a bruise like that from falling down your stairs. you either had a bracelet that was wayyyy to tight, but even then, a bracelet wouldn't make that bad of a bruise. so, another option is that someone was holding you and wouldn't let go, so what happened" he says leaning on his elbows.

"I...I..." I start but I'm interrupted by someone screaming

"ayyyy Mendes what you doing in here" Aaron says, but being shushed by the librarian. He shrugs and sits down next to him. Glancing at me

"did I ruin something?" he says smirking. Shawn rolls his eyes and shakes his head

"no, you didn't, Aaron this is my friend Payton, Payton this obnoxious idiot is Aaron" he mumbles, Aaron smirks at me and holds out his hand in a fist

"nice to meet you, you're in my English class right" he says. I give him a fist bump and nod

"yeah I am" I mumble

"oh, and by the way Shawn likes to be called Dadd...." He starts,

"okay that's enough talking for one day Aaron, you should probably get going to Olivia, right?" he says pushing Aaron out of his seat. I see Aaron wink at me before leaving, making me laugh

"I am so sorry for him, he's an idiot" he mumbles rubbing his face. I shake my head and laugh some more

"it's alright" I say.

"so. You going to tell me what that bruise is from now?" he says. I look at my phone and see there's only 3 minutes left until the bell rings. I just have to last 3 minutes

"I already told you. I fell down my stairs" I mumble, trying my hardest not to stutter. He raises and eye brow and shakes his head.

"still don't believe you" he says

"well that's what happened" I say as soon as the bell rings, he looks at me with sadness on his face and nods

"whatever you say" he mumbles.

"I'll see you at like 6:45, alright? Text me during 4th period, I ain't trying to listen to this boring ass teacher" he says. I nod and turn away. Walking towards my 4th period

Shawn's P.O.V

Falling down the stairs? bullshit. I know Payton's lying about something, I just don't know what yet. I watch her walk down the hall way and turn a corner before I start my way to my fourth period. This is the only class I have with Aaron so I go in and sit down next to him

"okay first things first, who the fuck is that girl you were sitting with, and why didn't I know about her

"you didn't know about her because we just met today and her names Payton, she's my partner for a history project" I say smiling. He smirks at me, making me shake my head

"were just friends, she probably doesn't even like me" I say looking away. I hear him scoff next to me,

"your Shawn fucking Mendes, don't tell me that bull face lie again" he says.

"how does my name have anything to do with if she likes me or not" I say. he rolls his eyes

"I'm talking about who you are as a person smart ass, but I like the way your name rolls off my tongue, Mendes, it just sounds so perfect" he stops as he sees everyone's looking at him

"mmhm, okay my name still doesn't determine if she likes me" I say. he rolls his eyes again and throws a pencil, hitting me in the face

"for one, you have a good personality, you're nice, smart, funny" he says, I roll my eyes

"oh, and a bonus, your hot" he says leaning back, he looks around and sees a group of girls staring at him

"yeah, I said it, so what?" he says throwing up his arms, making the girls turn around and walk away. I chuckle and shake my head

"you are something else Aaron did you know that?" I say. he nods and shows a goofy smile

"yes, I did, but if y'all are doing a project, that means you have to work on it outside of school, right?" he says.

"yeah, so what?" I say picking up that same pencil and throwing it back at him, he catches it and smirks

"so, that means you guys can get to know each other" he smirks, I roll my eyes and shrug

"she is a pretty awesome girl. but that doesn't mean she likes me" I say as soon as our teacher closes the door,

"I'm literally going to punch you in the face" he whispers, I chuckle and shrug

"do it then" I whisper back. He glares at me. making me chuckle

"is there something Funny Mendes?" the teacher looks at me, I shake my head and smirk, looking down at my lap

"one more thing from you today and you'll be sent to ISS" She says. I nod and look at Aaron, seeing he's trying to hold in his laugh

"Yes Ma'am" I mumble. She goes back to teaching

"busted" I hear Aaron whisper, I throw a balled-up piece of paper at his head. I try to focus on the teacher but somehow my mind always ends up going back to Payton. She is honestly so beautiful... I know there's something going on in her life that she's hiding, and I plan on figuring it out.
