Then suddenly she heard a knock on the door, she eagerly traced the hallway and opened it. Two sets of blue eyes pierced directly at her, he wore a white shirt with a black scarf on and faded denim jeans, he also put a cap on to probably conceal his face from the public, he looked so fashionable even in that outfit.

She brushed off the feeling of appreciation for the man in front of her. She smiled sweetly.

"I have been waiting for you, come inside..." she stated.

Shaun went in and casually threw the scarf on the couch. He didn't say a word as he roamed his eyes on the apartment. She suddenly walked towards him and looked at him face to face.

"I have cleaned up your room. You are staying for the night, right?" Jess asked eagerly.

Jess had never seen Shaun look that way, his eyes had a deadness, a stillness. The boy who laughed often, the one who was her friend had developed a hardness towards her. She was taken aback.

"Shaun? Is something wrong?" She dared ask.

"Don't ever go to the studio again!" He commanded.

She was startled. "I just went there to surprise you. I want to congratulate you." She answered, she bowed her head as she tried to suppress a whimper.

"Jess look at me," Shaun demanded; his voice was menacing it was almost scary. She gulped.

She followed what was told and looked at him straight. "My job is very important to me, and I don't want anything to compromise it, 80% of my fans are female, and if the news breaks that someone has seen you with me that would impact my reputation and I do not want that to happen. I have an image to protect, and I cannot be associated with you or anyone for that matter." He explained.

His words stung a little bit, but she tried to understand it. He's still in the early stage of his career and it might be fragile to do anything that can change how people see him, however, she did try not to impose herself for a little while but because of his new single she realized she wanted to do something nice for him, but it backfired.

"I am sorry..." she whispered.

His eyes suddenly softened and then he nodded. "I'll head out now." He started and stood up.

"What? No! Stay just for a little while." She persuaded.

"I can't I have an early appointment tomorrow. I need to rest. I have been beaten by work lately." He answered as he cupped his forehead.

"Just stay for a slice of your favorite cheesecake..." Jess uttered clearly.

Shaun stopped his tracks and turned his head towards her. "You... You bought that cake?" He confirmed his excitement couldn't be contained.

Jess nodded smiling as she went to the kitchen and got a slice of his favorite pastry. She knew that she could use this to hold him just for a little while.

She marched back to the living room when Shaun turned on the radio, and a soundtrack echoed their apartment. She knew that song quite well, it hit the top charts just a few days from the time it was released. The voice was smooth, clear, and powerful. It was soothing. It was the newly created single by Rick Reed. When she heard a grunt from Shaun, she knew that his mood was completely ruined.

When she resurfaced in the living space, she saw him clenching his fist.

"Just turn that off..." She calmly uttered.

"That Rick Reed piss me off!" he said in an outburst. "I will soon cast him from his throne, I will do everything to make that happen. I will make history in the music industry. I will surpass him!"

"Shaun you are already great with what you are doing, you don't need to compete with anyone else. People will see that you are talented and that is enough for them to idolize you..." She tried to reason out.

"Shut up Jess! You don't know anything about the entertainment industry so don't start to preach to me something you have no idea about. There could only be one best, it's either me or Rick Reed!" He stated.

"You have changed a lot..." Jess stated softly. It was never her intention to say it out loud, but she realized that Shaun was someone she didn't know anymore.

"Well yeah Jess, guess what? Everyone's changed, it's up to you if you can keep up. Suppose you don't like what you see right now. Well, you are free to back off and leave me alone!" He shouted.

Jess didn't have the chance to rectify the circumstance when Shaun stormed out readily from the apartment. A loud slammed crashed the door before the eerie silence lingered.

She sat there on the couch looking shocked as ever. She has no idea how things turned from bad to worse. She closed her eyes tightly. She had known Shaun ever since and she knew he had his days, but never did she see him act like that. The way he cut her and insulted her was something she didn't imagine that he would do.

"Oh, Shaun..." She whispered.

She glanced at her surroundings and noticed that his scarf was left behind. She took it and put it on her neck. She sniffs the smell of his perfume. It has always been her favorite whiff, the fragrance brought back memories of their joyful past when his eyes were all hers. Sadly, it seems that it has become a distant reminiscence from now on...
